CL500 Trunk Can't Open I MAY BE TOAST

I have had the air leak problem with my trunk but have been able to open it manually. Yesterday I decided to fix so I disconnected everything including the rod that runs from the lock to something about 10 incches to the rear. I planned to take the actual leaking piece out today and repair with Gorilla glue. Yesterday I closed the trunk and today it will not open manually. I understand that I cannot go through the back seat. I BELIEVE I MAY BE TOAST. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am in desperate need to get into the trunk.
PLEASE HELP!!!!

If you left the rod out, the handle is now inoperative.

Have you tired to unlatch it using the metal key blade (located in your key fob) in the locking mechanism ?

Yes

When I insert the key and turn it to the left and then push up - nothing happens. No release as it did before.

Does anyone have a drawing of the back of the trunk. I believe my best bet is to cut a hole large enough to stick a hand through and reattach the rod. This should allow me to manually open the trunk with the key. I would cut behind the license plate and would like to know the best place to cut. Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

good news for you. my battery was dead this morning and my mechanical key wouldn't unlock the trunk. called mercedes roadside service. the tech took out the passenger side carpet, unbolted an aluminum plate and there was wiring underneath. he jumped the big red wire to positive on a battery charger and put the ground to a bolt on the car. he then went to the trunk open switch on the drivers side door, pulled it up and viola the trunk opened. in my case i had a dead battery, which he replaced. he said either the battery died, or a computer kept running with the key off to cause the discharge. he also said that i need to get the trunk latch checked because it's not engaging.
hope this helps you out. no holes in the car.
use this post at your own risk. i take no responsibility for anything that can go wrong!!!!!

He has got power, just not the rod to actuate the latch mechanism.

hi, my trunk opens with the remote and with the button in the car, but the trunk won't open with the mechanical key. doors do open with the mechanical key though. also the emergency trunk release button inside the trunk doesn't disengage the trunk lock. is this possibly an easy fix? what would you analyze as being wrong? it's a 2004 cl600. btw, the key does turn the trunk lock and the button depresses, but the trunk won't unlock.

just checked google. there is a video that says that the panel that the license plate is attached to pops off, then you unscrew the locking mechanism and put your hand in the hole to access the cable to unlock the trunk. no holes, no damage according to him. use at your own risk and let us know if this works.
thanks

That is a good suggestion. remove your rear plate and you will see two bolts in the license plate holder insert. Remove those and pull the insert outward and off.

Not sure if there is access behind it, but worth looking as that is the very area inside you need to access.

So I removed the actuator rod as well but I reconnected it before closing the trunk. However, I still cannot open the trunk. Both manually or with the driverside/key button . The mechanical key depresses but does not ooen the latch. Im guessing the rod was not put back in the right length. How did you get it to open?
