I ran into a situation today that's new to me. The engine turned normally when trying to start but didn't turn over. I tried several times after turning everything off. I waited , while calling a tow truck, then tried it again and it started. Is this a prelude to something major?

Was the car warm (recently driven) when it refused to start ? A car that will not start when warm but will start once it cools off has a bad cps , very common problem and very easy fix

Here's a video

i had a similar problem and it turned out to be the ignition regulator, but that's expensive. i'd pursue the cps first.

Thanks! I'm going to check out the cps first. Is there a diagnostic that can be run to determine the cps vs the ignition regulator?

You didn't say whether the car was warm when it didn't start

That's the symptom for a bad cps - no start when the car was warm

Yes, the car was warm. My check coolant light had just come on.
