I know this is an old thread but I found it sort of interesting - and comical actually that this was such a well trafficked thread.
FWIW I am 42 and Drive a 2012 CL550 with the AMG package and 20" AMG wheels.
I previously had a S550 which I purchased somewhere in my mid-thirties as I recall. I then had a BMW 750Li.
I share this as therapy because maybe I fell into that mid-life crisis trap and went from big, overpowered huge monster of a sedan (S class and 750) to the sporty CL.... Oh sh&t maybe I need to make an appointment for a shrink and didn't even realize it!
As I think about how I accidentally ended up buying the CL550 I knew I didn't want an actual AMG car due to maintenance and the fact that the CL550 is plenty of juice for me since I live in an urban city and rarely have an open road to enjoy anyhow. BUT I did stumble upon my car with no miles to speak of and it had the AMG looks so I made a rash purchase. Wasn't even looking for one. I do love it though! Let's hope it holds up ok.
Gee when I go to sell mine one day Ill have to sell it in Michigan! I paid $21 K for mine after all the b.s. charges etc. Mines an 07 CL550 with the AMG wheels factory and a lot of nice additions like black suede look head liner and night vision etc. Im 59 now, bought it when I was 58 because I wanted something nice. Most MB techs wind up getting a deal on someone's old crappy Benz and then get stuck driving it around. I was not going to be one of those guys!
37yrs old - 2003 CL600 I would have killed myself if I had this car in my early twenties, I still look forward to driving it everyday. When you wake up super early and you have to go to work it gives you something to look forward to at least haha

First our CL 55 AMG is a C215, so it doesn't count in this list. We also have my wife's CLK 550. We bought the CLK 550 when we were 55 years old.
However, I bought my first Mercedes Benz when I was 15 years old, in 1975. Since there were no CLs being made then I couldn't have bought one. What I did buy was My first car, a 1956 1/2 Mercedes Benz 190 four door sedan, with four on the tree, a ed leather interior and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. The car is still on the road with over 750,000 miles on it. No wonder I love Mercedes Benz automobiles.
a 1956 1/2 190. No, not that 190, but a 190 sedan. It had four doors and a four of the tree transmission. The car came in that horrific German industrial green that I changed to white, after repairing the rocker panel along the edges of all four doors. We didn't use "Bondo", but my father taught me to do "leading", so as to replace the rusted metal with metal. What a concept! The car had just gotten a beautiful new red leather interior which looked amazing with the white exterior. I worked all he while attending school dating back to elementary school, so I paid for the car myself, with cash. I started my own business when I was 13 and had been saving money from that time, so not only did I buy the car myself, I also bought a Martin D-35 guitar too.
An amazing fact about my first Mercedes Benz is that the car is still on the road today, with over 750,000 miles on the clock. It has the same paint job that my father and I gave the car back in 1975 too. It was owned by one of my best friends who, when he crossed over almost three years ago, willed the car to his son. The son drives the car daily to and from work and has even done road trips in the car from Ohio to Florida two times a year for the last two years. The only bad thing is that the car doesn't have air conditioning, so he's thinking about either having an aftermarket, "time period correct" air conditioning unit or just driving a different car, but it's become a point of pride with him driving the car on vacation to his condo in Florida.

12/26/42...... A 2014 CL550 all black. Had a 2011 CL550 but traded it and a '14 BMW 535D for a '13 SL550 and after a couple of years the SL remimded me why the Cl is the car for interstate travel of 1760 miles from TX northern Ca and back.
More often than not I leave it in Sport. Comfort has a bit of a wallow like imho. Too soft of a ride is what I mean.
In Dec '17 I bought a '17 Jaguar XKL. It's almost as quiet as the CL and rides 'almost' as good as the CL, but the CL is the Interstate cruiser of choice. Both cars can give me 500 miles of range at a constant 80 mph, given no headwinds (Fort Worth, Tx to Sierra Blanca, Tx or from Santa Rosa, NM to Ft Worth/TX). CL seats are more comfortable than XJL seats.
I have the 23,8 tank and not the 21.9 fuel tank. That helps a lot on long trips.
