Help - Not entirely keyless Go!

Please can someone help me???

I have just bought a 2007 W216 500CL here in London. I can lock and unlock the car using the button on the doorhandles, but I still have to put the key into the ignition if I want to start the engine.

I have option 889 on my datasheet, but the dealer (not mercedes btw) is insistent that the car does not have a push button option. I was lead to believe that there as some sort of plug, that fitted over the ignition socket which gave this functionality, and also that this plug could be removed if you were leave the car to be cleaned or valeted for example....

Mercedes just don't know and want to charge me to inspect (and charge) before they can even tell me if I am able to get a replacement plug/button assumed mine has been lost.

Please can anyone shed any light on the issue before I have to pay the dealer???

thanks
Alex

I'm not sure what option 889 is, but yes, you do need the simple little button that plugs into your ignition key socket to have keyless go.
And, your key has to be programmed by a Merc dealer to work with that button.
I bought a second key for my CL and they said I had to pay an extra $125 to have it programmed for keyless go! It only cost $365 for the key in the first place!

Do you also need the plug for a 2007 cls550?

ANY MBZ car (that you have the build sheet for) with the code 889 mean you have Keyless Go. You will have to go and buy the button and have your key programmed. You must have bought the car used and the depending on how many other previous owners your car had. One of them must have lost the keys and decided they didn't want to pay to have the key programmed, so they more than likely threw away the button. Buy the button and have you key programmed. They might be able to take your VIN and program the button for your car and the key will work but I think the key isn't one that is pre-programmed for Keyless Go module. I would go to the parts dept. ask them to order you a Keyless button (ask if it comes preprogrammed) as it might just work. Try the button first. If it doesn't recognize the key then have the key programmed to the button.

I don't believe the key is programed to the button as they are interchangeable. I believe the key is programed to a module (http://www.ebay.com/itm/KEYLESS-GO-MODULE-CONTROL-UNIT-MERCEDES-CL-W216-A2218702292-/261514829336?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3ce37f9e18).

You can purchase a button (http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-MERCEDES-BENZ-ENGINE-KEYLESS-GO-PUSH-START-STOP-BUTTON-2215450514-33161207-/121370437558?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item1c423de7b6&vxp=mtr)
and see if works with the key you have for a start.

Then he needs to buy the button and see if it works. He has 889 on his option list so he has the module in the car already. So, maybe it will plug and play. Who knows, maybe one of the previous owners had a bad battery and couldn't start the car so he had to use the key and lost the button. Whatever, his car is fitted to be used with Keyless Go.
