Are the new coupes getting better??

I just sold my W215, 2006 and "started" to buy a 2013 CL550 but ended up with a BMW 650i. I had such "bad luck" with my CL that I just wanted a break from MB. The BMW has been wonderful, but now I'm waiting for the S Concept Coupe which looks wonderful and my wife loves it too.

Ok, now for the loaded question...has MB tightened up their quality and build? I just saw on the S thread that even the new 2014 S class seems to have some quality and build issues. I loved the looks and drive of my CL and still have a 93 300CE that I've had for 20 years...I just wish I could get a new MB with the same build quality as my 300CE.

thoughts on quality of the newest Benz CL???

I don't think there's anyway that a current mercedes could be worse than the W215/W220 era cars. Those, along with the C-Class of that era, were literally the epitome of the worst mercedes ever built.

The W221 has been great from what I've read, much better than the 7-series of the same era. I would imagine the 216 is better than the 6er as well.

SL500 CL600 Carlsson
I have over 80,000 miles on my W216, and very few issues, everything that has failed was repaired under warranty. and unlike all my BMW's, none of the dash buttons, electronics, etc has had a problem.
the only other car I would buy, would be a new W216, but mine runs and drives like new, and I have had a Carlsson tune for the life of the car, well, until last weekend when Jerry put a Eurocharged tune in it. now it drives even better!

Thanks guys. I loved the look and drive of my w215 but some of the failures were unbelievable . Plus the dealer didn't go out of their way to do anything.

We almost took euro delivery on a new SL, but decided we needed more room. We have had a W124, 1993 300CE for almost 20 years now and we LOVE it. If it had a few more creature comforts it would be our travel car, but it just hates wet weather and snow, so we don't take it out too much in bad weather. It looks brand new and people freak when they find out it's a 93.

My wife and I do have our sites on the new Concept S Coupe. If the engineering is solid, then it wont' take much to bring me back to MB, but I'll probably bypass the dealer in Plano TX and go to Park Place in Dallas.

Thanks so much for your feedback.

Many MB models from 2000 to 2007 were beleaguered with quality issues. This has really gone away and MB has very high quality rankings.

Buying new cars when they come out was a great risk then; did that on the old CL (215) and SL (230) but also on the new SL (231) it's become a non-issue.

I am also contemplating between the new S sedan/coupe to switch from our BMW 750li...
