Matte White 2012 Mercedes CL550

Just took delivery of my 2012 Mercedes CL550 and so far I am impressed.

Vehicle specs as follows;

2012 Mercedes CL550
9,000 kms
Designo Cashmere Matte paint finish
Dark Red/maroon Interior

I have driven it all of two blocks home once the car was delivered. My initial impressions of the CL? I purchased this vehicle sight unseen from Mercedes Benz Vancouver. I have been looking for a unique spec CL and this one fit the bill. Having not seen a matte white CL in person I was very impressed seeing it roll out of the delivery truck. The vehicle looks 10x better in person then in pics. The matte really shows off the lines of this vehicle. The interior is second to none and dont know what else a guy could ask for with respect to luxury.

Upon arrival I took a few hours to cleanse the paint with Dr. Beasleys Matte Paint Cleanser, followed up with the paint sealant.

I am a bit of a car cleaning nerd, and really enjoy waxing and cleaning my other cars (normal paint of course) as I find it somewhat relaxing and a way to unwind. That being said, the Dr Beasley products seem to work really well. They go on easy and wipe off nicely with a microfibre cloth.

Being a almost brand new vehicle everything is currently perfect on the vehicle. It will provide a good starting point for me to test the endurance of the Matte paint. Living in Alberta, Canada there are a strong 4 seasons, we are currently in the dead of winter with snow, gravel and salt on the roads.

When deciding to buy a matte paint finish there wasnt much with respect to the longevity of the paint when exposed to different weather elements. I would like to do my best at providing some real life experience for anyone looking to buy a matte paint vehicle. I will try to keep a semi regular thread going about what life is like with a matte car.

Thats it for now, I'll try to post a few pics of the vehicle soon.

A few days in and still happy with the purchase.

A few notes;

The cars size is massive, but have had a few comments around the "presence" the car has. It is big.and heavy, but thats what makes it so nice to drive.

I find using the sport tranny button (car starts in first instead of second) brings the car to life. In "E" mode it is a.more relaxed.experience.

The torque the twin turbo v8 has is addicting. It is difficult to pass up the renntech tune on these cars but currently the factory hp and tq are more than adequate.

The night vision is cool, but almost distracting. Maybe its just me.

The massage seats and adjustability of the seats is great.

Disctronic works excellent.

Currently this is the best car I have ever owned.

2012 CL550
Congratulations

What a beautiful color combination, very unique. Anxious to see more pictures, particularly out in the sunlight. Also want to see more of the interior, that dark red/maroon color is one of my favorites on almost any vehicle.

Like you, I have not had my CL for long and there isn't anything about it I don't like. Extremely comfortable to drive, quick when you need/want it, sporty yet elegant...the best of both worlds. Plus they are unique and not many are seen on the road.

Keep us posted on your experience. And more pictures when you can!

The Car looks amazing!!

Enjoy.

You may want to use Ceramic PRO 9H on that baby to keep it fresh for a while.

Stunning looking car! Please keep us posted here on your experience with the car. I am looking for a 2011+ CL550 with Deaigno. I have been wanting ownership of the 216 for a while now and want to know about reliability and experience. Best of luck with your new ride.

Thanks for the comments!

Quick update on both the car itself and the designo paint;

The Paint:
I am still in love with this paint, here are a few things I've noticed over the first 1,000km of ownership;
- washing the car is a breeze. I am stopping at the local wand wash and use water only. Once home I use three or four microfibre cloths to dry the vehicle. No scratches from the cloths to date.
- I can 100% see how owners can make a shiny spot on their vehicle. Things like tar, and bugs make you want to scrub them off, but if you did I could imagine the pressure of the scrubbing would make the matte finish shine. The important thing on my garage shelf is a cleanser of some sort to loosen the mark, in my case Dr. Basley matte paint cleanser.
- when the matte paint gets wet or snowy, the moisture doesnt seem to want to stick to the paint which is great. It seems to stick to the windows and not the paint. This is cool.

- annoyingly, Often you see people walking up to your car with a matte finish and touching the paint. No harm done, but still annoying, especially on a six figure car.

The car.

- amazing.
- the brake HOLD function is really cool. Probably meant for hills, I find myself using it at lights.
- the ride is still fantastic and make my other cars feel like they are riding on blocks.
- torque.....and then some.
- comments usually revolve around the "presence" the car has.

- my favourite thing about the car is that it looks special, but not in your face special. It is a good medium.
