2009 cl550 front wheel bearing.

Hi.
Still trying to sort vibration in my cl. Hubs seem to have movement at 12 and 6 o clock. Simple question is do wheel bearings adjust and if so by how much?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

If you can measure the movement you have a bearing issue---take the wheel off and retorque.

You will FTU if you do it that way---the process includes a dial indicator and you tighten till the push pull falls between .01 to.02 mm on the dial!!

Torque

I'll give it a go tomorrow. Certainly more than 0.1 or 0.2 there at the moment.
Thanks for the info and I will update tomorrow.

The type of bearing you have on your model is a sealed bearing type with NO ADJUSTMENT AVAILABLE. So if tightening it helped it being the whole bearing assembly must have been loose. On older years with the separate taper style bearings where you have an inner and an outter and a seal. I would tighten the cether nut until the bearings are seated all the way and loosen the nut, retighten with light torque when the nut contacts the washer and then back off 1/8 turn and tighten the lock. This method will zero out the play and not preload the bearing with pressure. It seems that when adjusting front wheel bearings that are the old taper style individual bearings one inner and one outter this method works best. If it is a single sealed bearing type then simply torque the bearing to spec and forget it. As a tech for 40 yrs anytime a taper bearing would get preloaded it always came back burnt. As for Joe Clair I looked up your bearing and you have a sealed bearing type that you torque and forget. If you do that torque and forget method to the wrong type bearings you will destroy them within days. Just some clarification thats all. Joe Clare if your play returns just pick up a set of new bearings and install. Also check for play at the ball joints and arms etc
