For anyone who has not done this, +1. It keeps the same sounds, just makes them all a little louder. And I passed California smog. Sorry palicl55, that's as far as I wanted to take it.

Does deleting the resonator effect performance at all?

Someone told me that it nerfs your torque . . .

How much does a resonator delete cost?

electric cutouts are the best bang for your buck.........at the push of a button you can go from super quiet to insanely loud(and anywhere inbetween).

Had a local muffler shop just cut them out and replace them with a straight tube. The parts were HEAVY - - I'm probably saving 15+ pounds on weight. I think it was like one hundred bucks or something. I didn't notice any difference on torque, but then again again if it did make a change it probably would have been too slight to notice anyway. FYI, they may not have an aluminum pipe to replace the gap with. That's OK, at least it has been OK in my case for the last 3+ years since I did it.

The eisenmann race exhaust will wake it back up. A cut out I think would be obnoxious on this engine, way too loud.

I deleted my mufflers. It got too loud and I had to put on magnaflow to soften the rumble. Unless you want to be quiet for your neighbors, deleting both mufflers worked really well for me. goodluck

Are the AMG tips spot welded and how easy are they to remove ? As mine need re-chroming.

Thanks. I didn't know that, which is a shame as to get them shiny you have to replace the exhaust

No, you can just polish them out with a small buffer.. Very easy and they will look brand new!

Resonator delete on a supercharged engine will not hurt performance, i actually gained 3 hp and a little bit of high end torque after doing mine and the sound is perfect, not too loud and not too soft and still sounds the same as stock just about 30% louder

Install the custom headers that I had made and you will get more power, louder and really help your engine get the heat out.. All the other stuff, does not add power and can alter the sound to DRONE mode! IMO

Keep in mind your car will be SIGNIFICANTLY louder if you run open electric cutouts on a N/A engine. I ran it on my V12TT only because the turbos quiet the exhaust greatly.
Here is a link to the photo of what I did with my S600.
Electric Exhaust Cutouts.....

They work wonderfully. My S600 has it's stock quiet exhaust when they're closed, or a deadly rumble when they're open, or anywhere in between.
Hope it helps....

I deleted my resonators only, and in the beginning I thought it was such an improvement however, my friend bought a Porsche 4S recently and when he revved his stock exhausts, mine sounded sooooo quiet I couldn't believe it....

Remember, there's a difference between mufflers (under the car) and Resonators after the axle.

Removing the muffler is a good idea (it will reduce low-end torque, but you'll never know it).

Removing the resonator is NOT. It can cause hi-way, overdrive drone...hence why its called a 'resonator'. All sound resonates.

I'm looking for an early 2000 CL55 and will prolly do muffler delete; However, not seeing any viable Intake mod. K&N panels are useless HP. Do for convenience, but that's it.
