Changing tack a little here.
I have my W215 65 amg up for sale and it has a non serviceable transmission. I have replaced that car with a W216 /2009 model does anyone know 100% whether the transmission is serviceable on this later car and at what interval?

Thanks in advance

Bentley boy what do you mean by non serviceable ? The v12s have the 722.6
5 speed transmission which is very much serviceable ! The w216 is what model ? If it's the 7 speed 722.9 mercedes recommends first service at 39,000 . Please clarify a little bit so we can help you

Thanks. The 216 is another cl65 AMG and thus has the five speed box. There is a range of transmission serial numbers on the 215 and mine falls within that range of serial numbers which do not require transmission fluid change. Appreciate your interest.

Regardless of what the owners manual says, you do need to change the fluid in the 5 speed. On another note, MB also says you don't ever need to change the ABC fluid either. We know that's incorrect too.

Same here.......especially since it was recommended by Emille at Benz Elite.

Thanks gentlemen,
Here's the official answer from MB UK. The transmission oil should be drained and replaced along with a new filter at 37,500 and is a once only service.
Here's something I found from an ex MB tech.
Apparently some of the early 216 "French" built transmission were sludging up and failing early in use, (probably clutches, brakes, whatever getting into the TC ) so the decision to do a "one off" service at 37500 was made for all 216 cars whether 722.9 or otherwise.
My car has done 34k and changes smooth and quick but I have to bite the bullet and shell out the extra $500 on top of the next oil , filter, brake fluid service next month.....OUCH !

If you have a CL65, you don't have a 722.9 transmission. Where did you read Mercedes manufacturers transmissions in France?

I have no idea of the part number for the CL65 transmission, I know it's a 5 speed. My information from from a now retired ex MB senior tech. Do you have a different advice to offer or are you just finding fault with my post?

SpeedTrapped,

Really nice car. Love the color.

Definitely keep those wheels, they are in my opinion one of the nicest Mercedes wheels and look perfect on that car.

Had a question. Is that the radar head on the outside front grill? If so, why not mount on the inside?

Also, I'm in the tri-state area and have used AIdesign and afterfxcustoms -- had good experiences at both if that helps.

As other members have said, the ECU is a no brainer mod. Should also change the crank shaft pulley and get a better intercooler. I changed the entire intercooler, not just the pump. I went with Renntech - happy with it, but there are less expensive alternatives.

Congrats on the car, really nice!
