CL55 wheel clunking noise during first turn of the day

Every morning when i back out of my driveway i hear a clunking noise as i make the 90 degree turn, as if something's breaking loose....only happens during first turn after car has been parked for a few hours.....first turn is usually in reverse but same thing happens if first turn is forward......any idea what this noise is?.....anything to worry about?......thanks, Scott

Does it clunk from the front? Do you feel it in the steering wheel?

Provide more info...

I have something similar if not the same. I never realized its only first time of the day driving. For me its when I back out of the garage cutting the wheel it feels as if the front tires are on a rock or sand that kicks out from under it as it moves, making a jerk movement mid-turn. Could it be ABC pressure related if its a first drive of the day situation?

Mine is doing the same thing. I thought it might be a worn/loose ball joint or tie-rod end on the left front I think. I notice it doing tight turn coming down a slight slope our of my driveway. It may do it on other speed bumps, not sure, will investigate. I will have my mechanic check it out and report back. Just love this CL 55.

Sorry i weant quite here.....noise seems to be front only but can't really feel anything thru the steering wheel.....feel more vibes thru the seat....mechanic's first though over phone was tie rod, but he was thrown by the fact that it only happened on first turn so tried some more troubleshooting......issue is definitely more sensitive to cold weather.....becomes noticeable in the low 50's and gets progressively worse approaching 40F.....driveway slope and curb transition may be contributing factors as to why i only notice it during first turn....sometimes i can get it to repeat after immediately pulling back into driveway, sometimes not.....slope, curb, and reverse not required conditions since same thing happens when pulling out of parking spot at work 10 hrs later in either direction....also tried raising ABC before backing out and didn't help......drjsilver/racehorse - any luck with yours?

Thanks,
Scott

I haven't done anything about it other than try to observe the condition of its occurrence. I still think it may be related to the ABC suspension which is linked to the steering sharing the same fluid & pump. We all know there is a correlation between pressure and temp. It might not be a bad idea to check the fluid, but I haven't. So tell me what you find. haha

My dealership said my front ball joints may need replacing. I will ask my mechanic and get back to this forum. J
