More than likely the plastic vacuum diaphragm assembly has broken. Happens to all of them at some point in time with the drivers side being first as its used the most.

If you search you will see extensive pictures and talk about this issue. Its call door close assist or soft close.

Three ways to fix....

#1 buy a new door lock assembly from Benz for approx ~600

#2 epoxy broken plastic unit back together if possible.

#3 buy new plastic vacuum puck assembly. This is not a Benz part but a fine reproduction piece. If interested Google "Door Lock Closer Assist Repair W220". The W220 (S-Class) and W215 (CL-Class) share the same repair unit.

The same thing happens to the trunk vacuum locking unit after some time.

The pump got reset. That is usually the first thing to try. If it tripped out prior, and your door stops working after a couple of days again, your problem is still there. There is a vacuum leak in the system and the pump shuts off to save itself. If the leak is in the door diaphram, there is a rebuild kit you can buy.

Goodluck.
