Eurocharged Heat exchanger does NOT FIT. Instructions worthless. Very Disappointed.

**Correction made, the instructions do not apply to CL55's, only to E55's. These are a bolt on replacement for E55's. On our CL55's, the cooling system is not the same. The product works great, and is very high quality. FYI, on CL55's You DO NOT remove the stock heat exchanger. Also, you will have to do some minor trimming of the bumper tabs. I'd very highly recommend the eurocharged heat exchanger to anybody who wants to reduce recovery times, and cool the intake air charge.

When I wrote the title of this thread, I was ONLY referring to the instructions, not the product itself. That's because the instructions do not apply to our cars, and I was told they do. So that sent me on a wild goose chase of sorts.

Here's my writeup on installation.
---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------

Eurocharged Heat exchanger Installation for CL55 AMG.

This Heat exchanger is a beautifully made piece, which ads extra cooling capacity to the system, and lowers the SC coolant temps. It also looks wonderful mounted on the car.
I added a Bosch 010 IC pump, and wired it to run when I choose, verses the stock ECU activation.

1) ADDITIONAL tools needed for installation (your platform may vary, but a CL55 requires these items)

2) Test fitting

You will be required to trim the mounting tabs on the stock bumper.

3) Mounting and plumbing

The way I plumbed it is in series, with the new eurocharged cooler as the last-line before bringing the fluid back to the supercharger.

So the the hot fluid comes out of the supercharger, and gets pumped into the stock heat exchanger. It gets cooled down some, but not all the way. The then slightly cooled fluid passes out, and into the eurocharged unit for further cooling, and then back into the uprated bosch 010 I/C pump, and back up to the supercharger to start the heat transfer cycle over again.

4) FINISHED PRODUCT AND RESULTS.

Well, it looks great and seems to do it's job well. I'd say this is a must-have mod for all 55k cars.

Next I decided to spray on a ///AMG logo..

Cut out a stencil from a graphic I printed:

Taped on and sprayed:

And Voila!

4) FINISHED PRODUCT AND RESULTS.

Well, it looks great and seems to do it's job well. I'd say this is a must-have mod for all 55k cars.

I have put a few on and they fit well. The lower small stock cooler is an oil cooler, so dont mess with that. You will have two heat exchangers with adding the new one and so you need to plumb them inline or series and back to your pump. Just think continous loop.

Is what one of the Eurocharged guys told me in my other thread, so I'm like WTF?
Thanks for the clarification Exotic, I appreciate it.

I saw the pic in the other e55 thread that you quoted, so this is how it's done?

And since I live in a small town without a large auto store, I had asked Jerry ahead of time what hardware and hoses were required, but unfortunately never got a response.

Now my car has the front bumper off, and I find out I need (at least) a heater hose, to connect it in series along with the stock heat exchanger.

So Exotic, since you've installed a few of these, what other parts do I need to source? Is this 1" diameter heater hose that's used to plumb the intercooler? I'm thinking I'll just buy a few feet, plus the hose clamps, plus the hardware to bolt it onto the bumper support.

Thanks man!

CL55 has a different HE setup than the E55. The cooler at the bottom is the trans cooler. Yours sits in front of the cars radiator, find the hose that comes out of the hot side (the 2 aluminum pipes coming out of the intercooler below the supercharge, its the lower line) take that hose and connect it to the top of the HE then connect the out line into the pump. Do you want to run both HE?

You took the cold side from your stock HE and ran it into the Eurocharged unit.

Its correct if you want to run them in conjunction. The SL55 has the same system, I disconnected my stock unit and just ran the front mount. I live in a hot climate so I thought it would help since the stock HE is sitting right in front of the hot radiator.

Looking at the diagram, the way I have it setup now would be like this:

Supercharger heats up the fluid, and is gets pumped into the stock heat exchanger, and cooled down some.

It then flows out of the stock H/E, and right into the eurocharged unit, which additionally cools the fluid to a lower temp.

It is then pumped out of the eurocharged unit, and right back up to the supercharger.

Oh, ok. Thanks, I thought for a second I was looking at things wrong. I wanted to add additional coolant capacity, and yes run things in tandem/series.

Thanks again for the cool diagram.. Is that the mercedes star online database you have to pay to access?

Should work well and everything you said is correct. You should pick up an scanguage so you can keep an eye on your IATs.

Diagram, yea you can find it when you google CL55 heat exchanger.

Upon further testing. The upgraded oem pump can't "pump" fast enough to run both H/E. I'm cutting the factory H/E from the system so I'll just be running the FTP. Will post results!
