I'm interested in buying a 2008 CL63

Hello all. New to this forum and I'm looking to buy a 2008 CL63. It has 98,000miles on it. Is there anything I should look for or be concerned about?Should I even buy this car because it has almost 100,000 miles on it? All answers and input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

don't know the value, but have it thoroughly checked out and get service records if available. make sure you have the car physically and computer checked out fully. the records are important also so you can see how the car was maintained. maintenance is expensive. if you can get a warranty some where it will help. good luck, great car!

No again, you'll be sorry after 2 weeks of owning it unless you have very deep pockets. I bought mine with 35k miles (now it has more than 80k) and this is by far one of the most unreliable cars that I've ever seen. It's my 2nd car but my family only owns Mercedes and I've never seen a car breaking as much as this one.

A cheap CL is very expensive to own. Mine is running me about 10-13k a year to maintain. Yours will have much miles, expect more problems.

Forget about it unless you buy one with a warranty.

Don't listen to anyone else who doesn't own one (or didn't put as many miles as me).

40k is a great price, yes mileage is high and if you had the opportunity to get extended warranty to last you for the next few years i think that would be a great deal, i purchased my cl65 with the best service history but i have spent tons of money on this car and wish i had extended warranty from day one.. take it to a Mercedes dealer and pay them the $100 cost for a full point inspection, and they should give you a print out of all the mechanical issues and electronic problems on the car... good luck on your purchase i am interested in getting a CL63 also... i have heard the cl63 has less problems then the cl65

ABC, Brushing Arms (or whatever it's called I forgot), Engine mounts (twice in 6 months), AC compressor failing 3 times in a year, brakes, parkt assist not working, distronic not working, valve body, transmission pan, intake manifold leaking, sat radio receiver failed and the list goes on and on. I forgot all the things I've done to this car but I'm sure I'm missing a million thing..

Yeah go ahead buy a CL63 lol

i agree these cars do have allot of problems. but the CL is such a beautiful car. my CL65 gave me the common problems but i still loved the car.. i know the cl65 has more common problems and more expensive problems then the CL63 and i think my next car would probably be a cl63 or another cl65 but with warranty, because i have change the coil rails on my CL65 4-5 times and $1500 for each coil rail not including labor cost, and $1200 for spark plugs, these cars can be quite pricey to fix... in the end it worth paying that extra $4,000-$5,000 and buy a CL with warranty

Wow!!! Guilty, you're starting to scare me. Is it possible that you just got a lemon? I haven't really really searched the threads for common problems but are these issues I can expect from CL63? Are these common? It's such a beautiful car. One more question, is the S just a problematic as the CL? Thanks for the responses guys. It's really appreciated.

Dude -Guilty- sounds like you have your self a lemon man. My only question is, why do you still have it after all these problems?

No, I definitely don't have a Lemon. I'm beating the shït out of this car and my mechanic is actually surprise how the engine is holding up pretty well the way I'm treating the car. It's normal wear. I used to put more than 3k hard miles a month in the car before I moved to NYC. Now it gets driven much less. Since the beginning of 2013 I put 29k miles.

The car is solid but there is a LOT of things that can and WILL break, it's just a matter of time. I'm sure that if I bought this car brand new, I wouldn't have any of these problems.

The only issue that might be a lemon is the AC compressor, shït is breaking pretty damn often and it costs $1800 to replace it!!!!!

Apparently I drive the car too hard and the compressor can't handle it lol

Anyways, add 5-10k more get a car with half of the miles or less AND buy a warranty. I tried to buy a warranty with Fidelity when I had 78k miles, they want 8k for a year or 100k miles. I told them to ***** off.

OH, and not to mention the head bolt problem (that can hydro lock the engine, all the M156 prior to 2011 have this problem, read this stick on the C63 section: https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...-problems.html)

Trust me man, do yourself a favor and don't buy this car.

@ anton28: I still have it because the car is worth nothing comparing to what I paid with all the miles I put on her. They offered me 45k on a trade. Sooner or later this car will go, but there is nothing else that I like and the 2011 is still a little bit too expensive for me.

Oh, and if you're intending to use the back seats of the car pretty often, the handles tend to break, cost me $500 to replace them.

Last thing, the sunshade thing on the back of the car also stopped working for some reason... Too expensive and useless so I just left it like that.

i wounder if you purchase a pre-owned certified CL63 from the Mercedes dealer if they would offer a better warranty plan for free or for a low fee.. because warranty is the best route when purchasing a used European car

Man you guys must've gotten the "NEW" model year blues! I have a 2006 CL65 with little to no issues. She has 58k miles had a few little things here & there. All how ever where covered by my USAA extended warranty! Except for maintance items like the brakes & spark plugs.

I think you need to do more research Canes85. Go talk to dealer mechanics or private benz mechanics in your area and see what they say about servicing these cars out of warranty. I have a few friends with cl63s with no issues and they've had them for years. I used to have two CL55s and everyone around me told these cars were problem cars and after two years of ownership and taking one to 40k and another to 60k ive had zero problems, while everyone around me was hiving a ton.

You can read the same thing about the CL65's. Issues this, issues that. You have none with yours. Thing is people dont post about how happy they are with the car. Only the problems they are having so there are WAY more negative info on the web then positive.

I just bought my cl63 over a month ago. I did alot of reseach and spoke with LOTS of mechanics in my area and came to a conclusion that there are bad cars out there and there are good ones. Unfortunately its very clear to me that -GUILTY- got one of the 'bad' ones. Sorry GUILTY.

With that said. 90k is a lot. Think about the resale value. You will be reselling your car with 100K plus. Maybe 120k, 140k. Its going to be a very hard sell. Spend an extra 10-15k and get your self a much lower mile car. That way you can enjoy it and sell it with out that much effort down the line.

Anton, please come back when you will have as much miles as me. I didn't have any problem with the car until I reached 65k and everything started breaking apart.

I didn't have a single issue before the 65k mark.

Don't buy a car like a CL63 with 100k miles.

Anton, you'll see soon enough what's going to happen to your bank account if you drive your car more.

My car even though is not the most reliable car I've ever seen, always puts a smile in my face, and in matter fact I pulled away from my friends 2010 CL63 who has half of my miles.

This is the best car you can buy for that money but be ready for the consequences. As I said above, do NOT listen to anyone who has a low mileage CL63. This car is problem free until a certain mileage. I checked the service records of my car before I bought it and it only visited the dealer for service and once for a problem with the side mirror.

i have had first hand experience with a cl63 with 150k miles on it. it might have more now.

the car has been largely trouble free if you dont count some abc work (both rear shocks and rear valve block) and front lca bushings. it also burnt the main gateway which was supposedly a result of a faulty chinese star cable. it also had some intermittent distronic problems which were addressed by a software update.

guilty- your experience is not typical- to say the least...

HAHAHA

Hey guilty! I told u to change that name remember ?? As usual you admit too much.....

Well I gotta tell you never buy a first year model as in 2008 here. Ideally you want a 2010 but spend the extra 10k and get a 2009 with under 50 k..there's one in Beverly Hills on autotrader. That way you can get a warranty.

This is the real advice. All the new non AMG v-8 cars have twin turbo setups that are highly chipable and will achieve 500 plus HP. I suspect in the next 4-6 months alot of those 09 and 10 cars are going to be traded in for those cars because they are out of warranty as a result these older AMGs WILL drop a lot. Plus there is the looming new 2 door s class for 14 that will be a game changer.

Just my opinion.

I would have to say guilty's experience is uncommon. I have had 2 w216s and 1 w221. All were trouble free. Current w216 is a 63, with very little miles but no issues after 2 years ownership. My first w216 was a 550. Sold it with almost 60k miles in 2011 without any issues. I still talk to the current owner and he's had zero issues with over 75k miles.

I think I saw the car you are referring to on ebay. Its listed at $39k but pretty sure you can get it for lower. I dont think there are many buyers for a CL63 with that many miles.

One thing you should consider cars with high miles is that the previous owner most likely drove it daily without issues. Unlike most maserati and astons with low miles, they have low miles because owners were afraid or couldnt drive them. However, if things do break, they are not cheap to fix so be prepared.

bruhman6ft8, 2 years passed on this thread, did you ever get that cl63? Do people have the same option on it that its a good car and get an extended warranty... Or do you think we should stay away from this car? Its a 150k car, how come the value has dropped so much....?
