Awesome. Will be following up to see how their opinion of the car evolves after owning one for a while. I know what a deal I think they are, which is why I bought one 2 months ago.

This will not end well. Edmunds just like the consumer report are a bunch of whiny Toyota-liking folks. The cl65 will be their kryptonite.

That's exactly what I thought too. If they think depreciation was high, just wait until they start replacing brake rotors, ABC pump/components, and coil packs. Not to mention, they will be very pissed when they are stuck on the side of the road with a failed idler pulley.

Does anyone remember the Top Gear episode when Hammond and Clarkson bought V12 cars for the cost of a of a brand new Nissan Pixo, Clarkson bought a CL600 for about 6995 pounds, 2 weeks later ignition coils had to be replaced lmao

Heres the clip and post about it from Top Gear

http://www.topgear.com/uk/photos/cla...600-2011-08-09

Seeing that they bought a CL65, there gonna bash the crap out of it when parts like ABC, Ignition Coils, Brakes etc all start the fail

I'm actually looking for a CL65 to buy and tune so I can offset the SL65 when I need to haul more then 2 people since I love the 65 AMG engine.

I feel the key here is get a good warranty to cover these 65's so you can offset your cost and drive worry free (Well expect for the 4k brakes lmao but these cars are worth it)

AMG C63s Coupe
Total Cost: $1,217.75
To replace one of the ABC hoses including full flush at dealer looks like really good price to me.
Just to flush ABC and filters cost me at dealer $750. Something doesn't add up here

05 CL65
Reading through the entire story you can tell they sure do love the car. Considering I bought mine about 2 months before they did I can understand the honeymoon phase with a CL65. Heck I'm still in it even though in 2,000 miles I've already had to;

fix drivers door wiring
clean and lube the sunroof track
top off the low ABC fluid (how does a dealer miss that on a pre-purchase inspection???)
Still need to fix passenger sear SRS sensor.

I've done a bunch of other mods/maintainance already too, but no other "repair" stuff.....yet.

I think they will feel like me about their CL.

A CL65 is a lot like a really hot woman. Expen$ive to keep, require a lot of attention and maintainance, always going to need more jewlery (mods), and no matter what, in the end they are going to get old and a newer model will start to look really good by comparison........ But you gotta love the ride.

Your worst nightmare...
I dunno, I mean as long as the maintenance and the care is performed don't see why it should fail. I am handy with the wrench and do most of my service myself. To me a car that has 4600lbs and could cut a 10.80 or better and still trap 126+ is a winner in my book.

I fell in love with my 65 when I had it and I did not want to sell it, only reason I sold it was due to an incoming baby. Now that I have grown into the role I am thinking of getting another one, Love the V12 torque, intoxicating, not to mention the neck snapping acceleration of the line.

2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG S
I kept mine and love it even more then ever!!!

My CL65 is amazing. Still turns heads and I keep it in mint condition. Just redid the stereo again and it sounds amazing. My car is ridiculously fast powered by Speedriven! So glad I resisted the urge to sell it. I still get the bug every once in a while for a SL55. I would love to get one and put the Weistec supercharger on one! I still may sell mine one day but for now I am loving it. I never lost a street race...closest almost a tie was agains a tuned CTS-V. At about 150mph I started to pull ahead but it was a strong race!

The CL65 is a great luxury coupe with a badass engine...but I think the guys at Edmunds were ill prepared for the kind of hurting an out of warranty CL65 can put on your wallet....especially if you take it to a stealership....

Oh yea, its a bad car John. If stars align I might get a cheap one and see what I could do. Don't mind having one, the torque is intoxicating.

Nice Larry! Glad you kept it! I remember when you had the itch to let it go.

http://www.edmunds.com/mercedes-benz...e-testing.html

They did some performance testing on the CL65. The trap speed seems a bit low (116.4mph). I wonder if the IC pump is working right or maybe they need some new plugs or maybe the 91 octane gas is the culprit. Even in 80+ degrees and our wonderful 1,000% humidity in the DC area during the summer, mine never trapped below 118mph at the track.

Agreed. Something is off. I took mine to Etown in the mid summer albeit I had a rear tank and ran back to back to back to back...11.5 @121-122. Stock (no tune, stock air filters, stock cats, 93 Octane, with drag radials. )

this is stupid. why get a dealer to work on a 9 year old high-performance V12
Those costs listed in the review are just terribly high. Thank you to the reviewer, people are going to read this and turn away even more and the value of these 65s will plummet like theres no tomorrow. Still enjoyed the read though.

I kinda get the impression they're starting to get cheesed off with the unreliability and cost of repairs.
