2003 MB S55 AWG
With the poor history on this system, I am considering replacing the ABC system entirely on my 2003 MB S55 amg.
I have a 1990 560 SEL that was replaced with coil springs in the strut pocket and shocks on the control arm. I do not have the same ride but no worries at this time. High turnover cost is a major covern. Good Luck

OK boys, some progress!

I was finally able to work out a time to drop the car off at BenzWörks. The ABC pump and reservoir are now out of the car, as well as the lines leading to the pulsation damper, and the ABC oil cooler. The W220 Airmatic power steering pump fit perfectly without fault! Next things to come out will be the front and rear valve blocks as well as the remaining lines that can be removed within reason. Then the front sway bar can go in! After further research I will be unable to do a rear sway, as it appears the car would need a W220 rear subframe, and my W215 subframe has already been modified for the air suspension.

On the subject of coding: in a nutshell, the ABC light cannot be completely removed. I still have the same white "ABC display error" on the dash, but all of the coding to remove ABC has been done. My car is now in ROW (rest of the world) mode, which is kind of cool because now I do not have the parking lights coming on in the front (since I have Euro impact strips). Also my door chime does not come on anymore and the dash is in 24 hour mode. Just an FYI for those curious...

Everything but a couple miscellaneous lines are still in the car, and the front sway bar is in the process of being installed!

Serge at BenzWorks did all of the coding. The car has ABC completely coded out, except the car does throw a white warning on the dash to the extent of "ABC Display Error -- Visit Workshop." Serge said this is because ABC is wired into one of the computer modules, and cannot just be erased. However, aside from this error, all other functions such as ESP work independently of ABC. I wish I had more info for you, but feel free to PM him for more info

Can't...he tried. The car doesn't freak out with ESP though anymore, which it did to me a couple random times in the beginning.

Thank you for your post, its giving me hope, I am about to do this to my SL55, would you happen to know if the same power steering pump will fit my SL? And I guess I need to look for sl500 front arms and swaybars?

What software did you use to code out the faults?

Steve (MBenzNL) is a great resource who can help get what you need brand new. If you're on the hunt for used, try ebay.de

I wonder if you can use W211 front lower control arms?

I believe since you have an M113k motor like me you should be able to use the same pump, yes!

The faults were coded out with SDS, but I had the same results just pulling the ABC fuses.

I was studying it this morning and Im thinking of looping back the pump line into the power steering reservoir line so I dont have to replace the pump. Hope it works!

@ OCKlasse ! You are totally sick !!!! That is just amazing ! My ABC started to show "ABC - Visit workshop" from time to time, and I had no desire to fix this....
So I actully traded the car last week with a car dealer to a CLS 55 AMG.

But I would have loved to have kept it.. These are wonderful cars, and I actully prefer the looks on the CL over the CLS. But the CLS looks a little bit more modern.

I admire what you have done though..

Best Regards
Ålander / Sweden

Thank you Ålander!

I love the car without ABC. I now can drive it freely and don't stress about the impending doom of it failing on me

OC - are you completely finished with this mod? Were you able to get both front and rear sway bars installed?

How does it drive? How would you compare the ride and handling to your car with a functioning ABC system?

This is very interesting!

Hey,

I'm "completely" finished in my book. All of the ABC components are removed and the front sway bar is in. The only way to add a rear sway bar is to add the mounts to our subframe, or to purchase a W220 one. Since my car already has a modified rear subframe (for my bag mounts), it's not worth the hassle to me.

The handling is perfect for me and the car can take turns just fine. My shocks have adjustable dampening so I have them set right in the middle front and rear.

Would I recommend this to anyone else? Well, to be honest it was A LOT of work. For the time and money spent to do this, you could replace a lot of ABC components. That being said, for what my wants were I'm very happy and I'm enjoying the car
