Time for new rear tires on CL65, what do folks recommend?
I have been running Michelin Pilot Sport Plus A/S 2 but tire life is short and I see more tires listed as available now: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...=57751&tab=All
Any tires that you love? I'm looking for an all season tire with decent tread life. The rears never wear evenly and I have been told by a few AMG mechanics that that is typical with these models. Is that everyone's experience?

Depending on how wide your rear tires (Continetal don't make 285/30/19 anymore apparently) are Continental DW (Summer) or DWS (All Season) is good, there just as good as super sports, they last longer then super sports (my Super Sports lasted only 18k, DW's did about 25K) and they are cheaper.
Only con about this tire is the sidewall is weaker then super sports so if you hit a good pot hole that sidewall will go out

Have you considered the new Michelin A/S 3's? I have a set on my Crossfire and they hook great (pulled 4 flat and lower 0-60 MPH runs) handle well and are great in the rain.

Just returned from dealer and the list of MB approved tires is interesting. Only Michelins listed but they really like the Pilot Super Sport XL. Stealer wants $374 installed. Tire is not listed at Tire Rack. Any experience with that Michelin? Any suggestions:

I have continental DW's right now and am not impressed with straight line traction. Might be fine on a lower power car but on a tuned 65 they have no grip below 55 mph. Hoping the PSS does better and I am going to try them next, or I may just drive around on M/T drag radials all the time.....

Still on the fence but I need new tires now...

Michelin Supersport or AS2 give you the best ride and traction, dry and wet, in my opinion,
Pirelli P0, good traction but wear out way too fast, excellent dry traction, not very good wet. Continentals seem to last as long as the Michelins, but don't feel as good.
Meanwhile I had been looking for wider rims because everyone told me I need it for wider tires. I like the stock rims and just tried a 295-30-20 pirelli P0 on them. It fit perfectly and look great on stock AMG rims. 265-30-20's for front as well.(35 profile fits quite well also if you want a bit more cushion, but too much side wall for me) A lot less tire slip on acceleration, better grip. Car feels more solid. No tire scraping or any issues at all.
You also mentioned tires not wearing evenly. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Quaife LSD. Will let you know how it works out. Its an outcry for a car with this much power not to have it. Much of the uneven wear is probably from one will slipping.

Thanks Grip Grip. I had new tires installed today. It was 73 degrees and sunny they ride like a champ. Very quiet and smooth. I will be interested to feel the difference in the rain. These were my old set:

You're welcome and I hope they work out great for you. What sizes did you go with? I had 285's on the back of the XF.
