Best Deal on V12 TT Coil Packs???
Hey Guys,
My car has a misfire issue and is going to get scanned today or tomorrow. I'm almost sure its the coil packs but not sure. I know previous owner replaced one side before so I'm guessing the other side went out. Does anyone know where I can get the coil packs now? I know they went down in $$$ a lot since a few months ago.
Thanks in advance
Kamil

+1 for Autozone and make sure you enter "Happy35" to get a $35 gift card for every $100 spent. The offer ends today, so you better act fast if you want to save around $490.

Just order both and return the one you don't need to a store. I've done it before. The savings only applies to online orders and the sale ends this evening. However, they usually have a code on their website for either 15% or 20% off online orders, so it's no big to hold off. One more thing to consider is the gift card may only be good toward Autozone purchases. That would suck if that's the case.

That sounds right. When I bought mine through Autozone, one was much more expensive than the other. The driver's side one should be the left hand side.
Part Number: C1362
Notes: Left hand side
Price: $819.99

I just purchased the left hand side one. Weird part is that When I got to the shop today the codes showed all of left hand side misfire a few times and only once cal # 3 which is the right hand side. After Marcin cleared all the codes he told me to go and get on it so it misfires again to see which codes show now. The left cylinders showed only. The right didn't.
The deal on Autozone is for a gift card that you can apply to current purchase. So I took only left hand side and got the $280 gift card. I will use that gift card in case I need the other side as well. The code for the Ignition module came up as well but this was before he cleared the codes. Not sure at this point. But I will go step by step. Left side ordered and now waiting so see what will happen once that is installed.
Thanks for all the help I will keep you guys updated here and in my thread.

Thanks for the recommendation - I also pulled the trigger on this deal. My brother's 65 needs one coil pack but we might as well do both since they're original. At 38k miles it's age rather than wear for sure (bought as CPO at 19k miles).
We did get a quote from the dealer and it wasn't any more than expected but was still pushing almost $4k after including the misc services, tow, and tax.
Interestingly, I also reached out to a somewhat-local vendor here on the board and was curtly told that they don't set up business by email; I would have to call. That also helped sway us to do the job ourselves - the $600 on a gift card was just icing on the cake. We've built a number of cars over the years including a singled Supra so this job is still on the "simple" end of the scale. We'll keep that in mind when it's time for a tune too - looks like mail order will be the way to go on that as well.

i had same problem missfires from both banks. it wasn't the coils. it was the ignition module (transformer). intermittent short. good luck.

Argh!
With misfire codes for cylinders 7,8,9,11, 12, and the 0300 for multiple misfires, we went for the coils first. The job was pretty easy, especially having seen the walkthrough on here first. The hardest part was getting the replacement coil pack seated - removal was a breeze.
Cranked the car after reinstalling and the problem still exists. We cleared the codes and the CEL returned almost instantly after cranking (cold engine). Same error codes, so now I'll have to assume the problem lies in the ignition module.
Oh well - with the AutoZone coils and DIY labor, new coils *and* the ignition module will still be half of what the dealer wanted to do just the coils.

FedEx arrived today bearing gifts - a new ignition transformer. 10 minutes later it was in the car and everything runs like it's supposed to! We'll try to wait for cool fall weather to do the passenger side coil pack unless it goes out between now and October
As turbo cars go this one isn't too tough to work on at all. I'm glad the circumstances led us to do it ourselves vs. paying someone. I'm still in shock that they are able to get so much power out of the engine through those tiny intakes. It sips through a coffee stirrer compared to the usual 4 and 5-inch inlets you find on Supras. Even my 89 Mirage turbo (1.6 liter, 135hp stock) had twice the intake diameter the turbos on this car have to breathe through.

I have a code scanner, nothing fancy but it showed 7 codes: cylinder misfire on 7,8,9,10,11,12 and p0300 multiple cylinder misfire. I let it sit overnight. Cleared codes, but it continued to run the same way. Codes all came right back. I'm guessing the coil pack is bad.

I got the transformer from an ebay seller. People here suggest parts.com but the site has AWFUL reviews including random and fluctuating shipping costs and it just wasn't worth the potential hassle.
You want Mercedes part number 0001500258 from any trustworthy ebay seller. Mine arrived in a factory sealed MB box.
It seems to be a crapshoot as to which part you will end up needing - a coil pack or a transformer. The Autozone deal on the coils was too good to pass up but naturally it ended up being the transformer. The transformer is literally a 10 minute job so if your car is lower mileage it might be worth the gamble to replace it first.

An option to buying a new transformer is to have it rebuilt for $295: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Benz-Genuine-M-Ignition-Voltage-Transformer-Repair-only-/281365680102?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4182b38fe6&vxp=mtr
