645 WHP CL65!!!
Careful cutting with a sawzall, not for everyone.
Soft flex mock up.
Tell me what you think!!! I have recently added some catless downpipes and the stock airboxes just couldn't cut it anymore. Higher rpms the car didn't feel itself. Also, ended up with a CEL which was no surprise. Code came up for the obvious, rear O2s.
Along with everyone else looking to make a cold air intake, I was able to get some parts together and set up a dyno session. I started with 2.25" to 4" reducers with a 2" sheet metal ring inside. This allowed me to oval the silicone fittings and have something to tighten the hose clamps up against. The problem is trying to attach to the tiny lip on the radiator. I finished up on Saturday and I only had very soft 4" flex that was collapsing around 3k rpms. Since I was set up to dyno sunday morning, I ended up adding 4" hard elbows off the fittings and attached the cone filters. This was the closest I could provide to the finished product last minute, and I was very happy with the results.
I will end up having silicone fittings to the radiator and then hard pipe to cone filters up front. K&N RU-3130 filters, are not the biggest and not the smallest. They were in stock at Advanced Auto which made it easy to test fit. Keep in mind to fit they still required trimming the back of the grill and cutting away at the bumper support.
The funny thing is CEL went off after putting cone filter setup on. After a few dyno pulls no issues since.
I will provide more pics once I'm done. As you can see getting air in and out of the turbos makes a big difference.

Sweet! Congratulations, nice to see you could make that kind of power through those little filters. I am hoping to get back on the dyno to get my AFR corrected soon, but without the downpipes I won't match your #'s.

Those filters are 3.5" inlet but I put the 4" flex on the outside and it fits snug. They are 7" long and 4.75" diameter on the large end. Even after cutting away at the grille they are still getting bent a little. I would like to have a mesh grille that sits out flush with the hood allowing for more space and larger openings, although seeing the filters would look cheap.

Nice! Looks NASA approved.. It would be interesting if you added pure ms 109 then redyno, then dyno tune specifically for 109.. I've seen 15-20 whp by JUST adding 109 to these v12tt's turbs luv it regardless of tune..
Curious since you mentioned running same tune & only mod was CAI & down pipes what were the old dyno #'s before these integral mods? Thnx!

Wow, great numbers. Apparently these cars are breathing through straws.

Previous Dyno with same tune was 562 whp. That was with stock downpipes and air boxes in closer to 90 weather. It was higher 70s for this pull. First decent pull was 636whp then 638 whp 5 mins later. After 15 minute cool down this 645 came out and I was happy. I'm sure MS 109 and a 45 degree track day would give some nice times with a little extra power.

Hey thanks for the kind words, 130+ traps would be a big jump, but I wouldn't complain if it happened. I may have to pull it out of shiny car retirement this winter. I'll bolt on the drag radials and try to move up the list before Dr. Alaska and Jody Foster fight for number 1 and 2 spots. LOL.

What size pipes? what size filters? Also I was able to dyno on the cooler side of summer weather at only 76 degrees. Maybe all little things add up...Then again dyno numbers are just numbers.

Same size as the plastic pipes that go through the radiator. Cant remember if it was 3 or 3.5. I also didnt even run my filters when I dynoed it. Mine was also on 100 oct tune and I have made full catless downpipes.

My downpipes are cat less as well, no 100 octane for Me, only thing I can think is a4" is around 40% more free area than the 3". Then again you ran no filters, who knows?

Damn that's those are good numbers your 1st and 2nd pull pretty much matched mine, but I didn't think you can get 645 out of a 65 amg with catless downpipes/intake/ecu/tcu and we pretty much have the same engine mods atm
Wish I knew this before having the car under the knife again I would have tried doing a run when the car was completely cooled lol

Edit: Stock piping is actually 2 7/8" not 3.5" I had 3.5" SS tubing fab'd on an early cai & held it up to stock krap, it looked huge in comparo lol

a little progress...
Passenger side, waiting on a 4" 90 degree elbow
Passenger side from the front.
I am waiting for 2 other elbows to be delivered, with 2 additional on back order.(which may encourage me to find another supplier). The 4-3.75" I ordered for the drivers side is too loose to connect to the stock radiator opening and I will have to get a 4-3.5" 45 degree bevel. The 4-3.75"on the passenger side fit well after trimming 3/4" off the smaller end so it would slide towards the grille more and clear the coil on the 4" end. The driver side turbo inlet is on a slight angle. I'm going to try and trim a 2.25"-2.25" 45 degree short to direct it up so I can add the 2.25"-4 straight reducer then 4" 90 towards the stock opening up front.
In the end, both sides will be very similar both with 2- 45 degree bevels and a 90 degree elbow. 4" throughout with reducers at the turbo and stock openings on the radiator. The drivers side needs a little extra to straighten out and clear the ABC reservoir. I hope that helps those trying to do something similar.
On a different note, I'm starting to wonder if alot of the heat soak in a stock setup is a result of the narrow airway starving the turbos forcing more exhaust to make the same boost. Having much less restriction on both ends seems to make boost effortlessly. Ok maybe I just said the same thing as Thericker did above just with east coast words. As Grip said " like sucking through straws" LOL

Great numbers, your car should definitely see 130 traps!
I am amazed at how Sean (Ricker) was able to discover all this a while back and share it with us, now we could reap the benefits! Big props to everyone who has done this.
