CL63 Air Filter(s)?

Went to check the air filters today and saw something I have not seen before. Looks like a lower paper filter and an upper fiberglass filter in each air box. I only see replacement filters online for the paper (lower) filter. Does the upper one need to be changed? Does it even need to be there?

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
the main air filters are the big ones, sit in the air box housing and you can lift them out. The upper ones, white, are charcoal filters like an AC filter. they only come in the US cars. The rest of world cars have a different upper housing. Known as Euro housing. They have a different shaped inlet tube and dont have any of the charcoal and its black frame. The euro cars are known to have better air flow and HP because of this. You can buy the uppers from mercedes ($650)and call it a performance modification. Or you can strip out the charcoal and frame and replace the stock air filters with a good free flow filter like BMC or K&N and have a much free er flowing air intake. I did this a year ago and the car felt alot better from the start. You can hear the air sucking right after you crank it.

^^^^this is all correct. I must tell you I purchased the row air boxes from parts.com for $320 and it came with the new mafs and I got to tell you the car overall drivability has changed even exhaust note is different I don't know house to explain it but it seem like the car was just breathing a lot better all-around and I had the performance filters in the old box with charcoal delete.

Maybe my mafs were needing change I don't know, but I highly suggest you look into it
