My Satellite Radio Install

I put Sirius XM in my '03 CL55 AMG last week. I had XM in my previous vehicle and I called them to cancel my subscription when I sold it. They offered to send my a free stand alone kit, so I figured I'd see if I could make it work. It turned out pretty good:

So the stand alone just plugs into the port , located in the glovebox? No other wiring?

Yep. It came with a cigarette lighter plug in which is also a transformer. I took out the ash tray and spliced in a female lighter receptacle in the cigarette lighter wiring and plugged it in. It's all hidden under the ash tray. I pulled out the glove box and drilled a hole in it to run the output to the aux. input. I ran the antenna wire behind the glove box and out through the door jam and into the engine bay. I then tucked it under the rubber windshield molding and used double sided tape to attach it to the top of the windshield. All of the wiring is completely hidden. I have $0 invested in the entire thing.

My only concern was would the module be in the way for a front seat passenger. It's really not. It's up against the side of the console, so it hasn't been in the way.

nice install,

will the signal be weak if you leave the antenna on the inside?

I tried the antenna on the dash. The signal was pretty weak.

You can run under the door seal. The wire is pretty thin.

The antenna wire runs behind the glove box and comes out into the door jamb. You can see it in this picture. That's the only spot it's visible.

It's a little tricky getting the wire from the engine compartment into the door jamb, but it'll go.

I tucked it behind the rubber trim that runs along the side of the windshield.

When I did my sat radio install 9 years ago and if my memory serves me correctly, the wire was able to go under the trim the whole way to the top. There was no point where you could see the wire.
