CL55s in South Korea
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I am new to MB World. However I am in the Army station in South Korea. I have never owned a MB before but, before leaving to come to Korea I have seen a few CL55s drive buy and right away, I know I wanted one.
I really like the looks of all the CL55s on this forum! Here's my question. I have found a few low miles, 2002 and 2003 CL55 AMG's here in Korea. Do all MBs qualify as American specs for shipping? I can't find this answer anywhere.
I have read some of the threads and everyone here are very knowledgeable.
Thank you in advance,
Cesar

Don't buy one in Korea if you are thinking of sending it back to the usa
Also the 2002 and earlier are not supercharged so they have far less power and mod capability

Thanks brother, looking forward to returning after my overseas assignment and purchasing my first hopefully 03 CL55 AMG. Quick question, I notice in your intro, you drive a 2006 CL55 AMG. Is there a big difference between an 03 CL55 and a 06 CL55. As I am new to MBs.
Finally, I also notice you are from New York. I grew up in NYC a long time ago before joining the military.
Thanks again Principle,
Later

Cesar, differences are interior/exterior trim, wheels, electronics, etc. but engine and transmission remained the same. The already potent 496 hp/516 lb./ft trq. 03 CL55 can be given an ECU tune, smaller blower pulley, i/c, i/c pump, belt wrap, and headers, adding close to 100 hp and trq. Go for it! I hail from above NYC in Dutchess County.

Thank you, for the insite on the difference between the two CL55s. I will return stateside for my mid tour leave at the end of this month, and purchase the 03 CL55 AMG. Once i get possion of it, I will post photo of my new ride. If you have any of yours please send photos.
Thanks again

Bentley,
That is a good question? I am trying to find out if there is a big difference between an 03 CL55 and an 06 CL55. I believe they both look very similar, so then its just a matter of finding one with low miles, right?
Principledchiro, did a great job pumping me up on pulling the trigger on getting one. Now I just want to make sure I get the right one. One that I can enjoy for many years to come.
Thanks Bentley,
Cesar

I'm assuming you have already figured this, but thought I would mention anyway... 2001 and 2002 (they had not yet made a cl55 in 2000), along with not being supercharged, have many cosmetic differences from the 03 and newer. The cl55 before 2003 has different taillights, different front and rear bumpers (front looks very similar but is not the same), does not have the beautiful amg seats, and nav head unit is smaller and the center dash is arranged differently. There are probably more differences as well, but these i think are the main ones.
Yup, I'd say its just about finding the right, well sorted car for you.
Good luck on your search!
