door lock removal? (door actuator, soft close unit)

hi, i checked the mercedes repair dvd and it says to replace the passenger side door lock (door lock actuator, soft close) you basically have to remove everything inside the door. the speakers, the air bag, the window regulator, the window, the door handle, plus possibly some things i forgot to mention. taking off the door panel is pretty straight forward, but taking out the lock seems like a nightmare! is there any simpler way to replace the door lock? are there any short cuts, or tips?
thanks

It's a pain. Been there, done that.

You need to remove everything. Make sure to mark the window (where it sits in the regulator) so upon replacement the position is the same as before removal. I use a sharpie.

hey, here's a video of a guy who apparently replaced the door lock without removing anything else from the door. the first part of the video is about repairing the puck, but in the end of the video he replaces the the door lock without dismantling the window, or anything else. his major problem is he couldn't get the handle back on. it's an interesting video. do you think it's doable?

On the CL, I don't think its possible to remove without taking the window out.

If you try be vary careful not to break the window.

Is this a common failure on these cars? :-(
