How so? The outer and inner barrels are two different colors, but I see no weld marks that would say widening to me. The wheels are staggered, though, 8.5/9.5. What kind of weight discrepancies should I look for?

Sound like normal sizes so I am probably wrong. I was just looking at the different colors on the drum of the wheel but that is just for looks I assume.
You should weigh them while you have them off just out of interest really.

They look good though.

Everyone has their own opinion, but I like them as is. I think the lip shows how big the wheels are instead of the black blending right into the tire. Personally, I think the all black, murdered out is getting dated. The gun metal gray, matches the carbon fiber lip pretty good. I'd even consider painting the chrome portions of the grille the same gun metal gray while keeping the mesh and other part black. I guess for now getting the wheels sorted with fitment is a much bigger concern.

Carbon fiber wrap on the silver portion would work well with the splitter, it would also probably be the cheapest option. You have to take the wheels apar anyway by the sounds of it.
HRE with carbon barrel would be around $20k so the look would work.

Turns out it is only the left front and rear that is mismatched, so I won't be recoloring the wheels any time soon. I am actually very happy with the finish, at least for now, so until I sort the ABC out I will be staying with the gunmetal gray and chrome lip. Otherwise, I am in serious consideration of converting everything over to coilovers. My upper strut mounts are really loose, at least in the front. Although I am not hearing any clunking yet, I'm really thinking that the strutmasters coilover kit would be a good choice. However, stock ride height and a worse ride doesn't appeal to me.
Otherwise, I'm thinking of just putting the whole car on hold until next June. Since I am several hours away from home for school, I just cannot find time during the week to tackle these projects. Winter is coming anyway, and it would go into storage regardless. Bad foresight on my end I guess, sucks to be young.

if you think it sucks to be young, wait until your old and see how that feels!

HE'S have been weighed, they sit at 28lbs front and 30lbs rear, identical to the old amg reps. A little dissapointed that they don't weigh less. Glad they're fully restored though, I'm heading off to the MN Oktoberfest show on the 19th. Pictures to come!

Don't I feel special! Four pieces of japscrap and the V12TT!
Jokes, though, I'll be on the VIP showcase this Saturday at the MNNI car show, if anyone happens to be there.
In other news, I have a heavy box with 2000 dollars of metal in it. This is the most expensive differential I've ever seen. I'm almost certain it will be worth it, though.

That's a 5 hour drive for me, but I do intend on heading to the track sometime before the season is over. I really want to get Hoosiers on the CLK 16's and do some runs, but I just haven't found the time.

Hey everyone - it's been a while. The car's garaged for winter now, even though there's hardly any snow. I'm debating what to get done before next spring, and I'm seriously considering treating the paint with Ceramic Pro. It's supposed to be some kind of nano-ceramic coating with a lifetime warranty, offering permanently glossy paint. While the paint on my CL isn't perfect, I think it might be a good opportunity to protect what I still have. I'm just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with Ceramic Pro, and what to expect. It's been a really fun first year, a big thank you from me to everyone here!

Jason, congrats on getting your hands on Kamil's car, what a absolute stunning CL...
Will be following the progress you make with this animal with great interest, although you have a great start! The HRE rims have on there look the business, have a set of 20" FF01s coming for mine.
Love the single slat grill with the distronic cover, I ordered the mesh version for air flow but that version looks super clean. This car is an inspiration for me, keep up the good work man.
Regarding the coating, really I wouldn't bother unless the paintwork is perfect. Throw two coats of Collinite 476s on there for Winter and get it fully corrected and a ceramic coating applied by a detailer in Spring. That is my plan, just waiting on a dry day to do it.

Jason car looks amazing. I miss it every day and sooner or later I will get into another CL (maybe even my old one) . Keep me in mind when you go to sell it and also stay away from paint protect. Get it detailed and wax it accordingly and you will be fine.
