Loud engine ticking?

Started the car today and it had a loud ticking, like a lifter problem or something. 2008 CL63 with 70,000 miles. Just had it serviced 6 weeks ago at MB sugarland dealership. Heres a video. What do you guys think?

Sounds like a loose cam follower or collapsed lifter. I'd have it towed to a shop if it is not something you plan to fix yourself.

Shardul,
I have powertrain warranty. I have been going to MB Sugarland, any eason not to deal with them? Any Better ideas? Thanks. BTW, I am in Bay City, so it's probbly gonna be a good size tow charge.

BTW, the car has 70K miles, properly serviced, how can it have valve train issues this early?

Yes then I would recommend MBSL

It can be a uncommon failure. Keep us posted on what they find out. My friend has a E63 with 40k miles and he dropped a valve. MBSL put a new engine in the car.

Got the car into MBSL today, but they wont be able to really get a look at it till Monday. Said it sounds like a stuck lifter. Would that cause a drop in power?

It might be a long shot but when I had my abc pump replaced and after 3 weeks it was making a ticking sound. I was fearing the worst but had the hood open and tech was looking at the idle pulleys while it ran when he notice a bolt to the abc pump came loose and he torqued it up again. Turned it on and sound went away. Again its a long shot but if you went in for some kind of abc work, it might be a bolt that got loose.

The ABC pump was replaced 20K miles ago. Could be it. Got a call from MBSL and they said they think it is the ABC pump. Will cal and have them check bolts.

Dealer said they cannot hear the ticking that was in the video I showed him. He said the accumulator sounds bad, not the ABC pump. He quotes $1500 to fix it. Sounds high to me. What do you guys think?

Accumulator is not a 1500$ job, unless they are replacing all 4 of them... and even if they are doing all 4 1500$ is high

1 accumulator is about 150$ part only

i have never heard of an accumulator going bad and making a ticking sound.

Do you get a ABC malfunction warning message on the dash?

No abc message, or any dash warnings. They say they cant hear the ticking sound, but they hear a "howling" sound

is the dealer talking about the hose, or the accumulator cylinder?

He just said accumulator. I picked the car up today. The ticking from the video is gone. And I cannot hear the "howling noise" he talked about either. Car sounds just fine now. Go Figure.

It was probably a collapsed lifter. They can bleed down when an engine sits for a while, then pump back up after the engine develops oil pressure.

i believe the accumulator is also called the pulsation dampner and that is a hose and would probably cost $1500 at the dealer, where as the regular accumulator would probably be a $300-$400 price. it would really be interesting to find out which one there talking about. do you have the part # on your invoice?

tx Nuke, you have been getting a lot of help on the forum, it would be nice if you reciprocated when someone asks you a question, or asks for a response. i.e. part# on invoice.
thanks
