W215 CL65 AMG Brakes on W215 CL55
Hi all
Looking at a possible upgrade setup, to the 65 amg brakes on to my 55.
I have the 65 style alloys so fitment inside the wheel should be fine.
It also seems as the fronts will be a straight swap as the front wheel hub and the steering knuckle (with the caliper mount points) are the same parts numbers between the 55 and the 65.
The rears however is where I'm not 100% sure. I know the 65 has different rear hubs, and the parts numbers that are different are:
Rear wheel hubs
Rear wheel carrier (with brake mounting tabs.)
So the question is, are rears likely to be bolt on as well, considering the hub is different, likely to accommodate a larger drive shaft, and the carrier is different to accommodate the larger hub?

Also, comparing the rear disc visually and by spec, they are different.
diameter is the same.
Bolt pattern also looks identical.
Disc height on the 65 AMG is 69mm
Disc height on the 55 AMG is 61mm

It looks like the diameter is the center is larger, based on the imprint left from the wheel.

I was aware of the difference in rear offset for the wheels, and have had a very detailed look into the suspension differences between the 65 and 55's.
In my opinion, the fronts will fit without modification, The hubs, suspension arm, mounting etc, is all the same. Only the discs and calipers have a different part number.
The rears, as you say, are a bit more complicated.
They have a different Hub, a different rear hub assembly (with caliper mountings) and a different drive shaft part number. It seems as though it has an older 140 hub, and a thicker, shorter drive shaft. Possibly for power reasons.
There are also different part numbers for the handbrake shoes that go inside the hub.
However, despite those differences, I am still confident they will fit, as the difference in rotor height on the rear, is 6mm. This could be taken up with different caliper mounting brackets (that go in between the caliper and the hub mounting.
Also, the hub diameter seems bigger on the 65, but the smaller 55 hub will still fit inside the disc hat.
It will seem trivial to test fit them when they arrive, but I will post my experience as I have purchased them now. I'm hoping the discs are in good condition wear wise.

Consider returning the 65 brakes.
I'm using the Racing Brakes front and rear. The are a huge improvement, e.g., 30% less unsprung weight over the stock iron MB disks and are a bolt on solution.
Using the 65 brakes doesn't give you this advantage and is much more work.
