GLA Winter Wheels

I wonder if you can fit 18's on the GLA 45 AMG.

There doesn't seem to be good winter tires that fit in the 19" sizes, specifically the Nokia Hakkapeliitta R2.

18x8 would solve my problems, so I could run 225/55/18 tire for wintertime use.

just go 225/45-19 all around and call it a day. I'm going with the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8s, which are available in OEM size. Going to be invincible in the winter with those bad boys!

225/45/19 is smaller than OEM, circumference wise......but I guess if I can't do anything else about it.

I'd go with R2's, but that's cuz I don't need the studs.

Of course you can run an 18" wheel; the CLA45 does, and they have the same brake calipers, rotors, etc.

Just be sure to find the proper offsets and make sure the wheels are 'Big Brake Kit' or 'Brembo' friendly. Then you just have to increase your aspect ratio on your tire (higher profile) to match your overall diameter of the smaller 18" wheel with that of the diameter of your OEM 19" or 20" wheel.

2014 CLA 45 AMG; 2012 GLK 350 4MATIC (totaled); 2009 VW GTI (sold)
I just got my set of snow tires this week for my CLA45 - Bridgestone Blizzak + Enkei 18" black painted 18x8 ordered from tire rack.com. The site automatically sizes the 18s to fit - its a 235/40/18 XL tire.

FYI you want a bigger side wall in the winter time for deep snow, if you go with 19s that is actually worse as your side wall profile is that much smaller. Its winter time, you don't need the performance of bigger rims...

in the back of the manual it lists wheel tire combos- 20 summer , 19 summer and all season and 18 winter (7 1/2x18 et et 42.5) with 215\55 r18 tires. Since mine came on 20s i'm looking for the 18. The tires are ez but the wheel i don't know yet. I found a Drag dr33 with a 42 et that the tire place is going to see about. I know nothing about it so trying to stay near reccomended spec, would be nice if merc had an option aside from an $1,100 per amg wheel

thanks...is there anyway to figure out what the inner diameter clearance of a wheel is other than just trying a wheel and see if it fits?

Dont understand why wheel companies don't publish this.

the gla45 offset is a little different 43.5 for the 8x19 and 20 and 42.5 for the 7,5x18 winter wheel - center bore 66.6(important so you dont have to use centering rings and avoid vibrations)

i went to the tire shop where they had the 18 and it cleared the rotor but ugly, so i got an amg replica in 8x18 et 42 and it clears and looks good. Now i'm just not quite ready to give up the insane grip and handling of the summer contis

OE Performance 136 8x18 et 42 5x112 AMG Replica
My first choice was silver but i think these may be a discontinued item. I ordered up a black and silver one to fit and I liked it more so it worked out. There's also a chrome version out there but .

18`s may be a decent choice for extra set of snow wheel /tire set up and you can also find more racing tires in 18", if you decide to track the car.

Thanks for the update and all the great info natrat. I've been having problems finding solutions for a winter setup for the gla45 and your posts are the best I've found. Any other tips or advice to share on this setup? I think I'm going to emulate what you have here.

Did you get the TPS sensors?

I didn't get them from my dealer, which might have been the mistake, because of excessive cost so i got what i thought was the correct part, and it might be correct and just needs the dealer to program it, not sure but i think i will black that light out with a piece of electrical tape and just check pressure with a gague.

yea finding 18's that clear these brakes has been near impossible for me....I was set on the Niche Apex wheels and everyone was saying they cleared...just found a dealer in the area that had one and it ended up not clearning the calipers :/ ...back to square one, might end up with those AMG replicas as well.

Thanks for the info. What tires did you get? Where did you purchase your OE performance rims?

Thanks!

I went with conti extreme contact dws 235 50 18 (all season because california) They were the closest in size to the stockers, within .4% circumference and diameter -. Tpms didn't connect so maybe tirerack has the correct part

The wheels came from ebay

@natrat -- how's the wheel/tire combo working out? I am about to pull the trigger on the same set up. Vibrations?

Thanks!

No vibrations. Dry traction may not be quite as good and a litle less precise steering feel but definitely a little smoother than the 20s over small road imperfections. The recommended winter size was 215 55 but that seems a little narrow for dry conditions so i went with 235 50

Hey Natrat, sorry for all the questions. I read the tirerack tire guide but still a bit confused.

I see you went with all season, but if you went with a winter tire what would you pick? I'm worried I'll pick the wheel combo and have something that won't fit.

Very very grateful for all your help in this thread!!!

do you have 19s? if so thats ez just pick either snows or all seasons,
those surveys on tire rack do help narrow down different qualities you might need in a tire, like ice traction etc. I'm in Ca so all seasons. If 20s and you want to go to 18 either 235 50 or 215 55 should work

this calculator helps, you plug in the stock #s on top and it will tell you how close a different size will be
