CLA45 vs C450

I have been looking for a CLA45 for a few months now. I test drove one with the performance exhaust and seats and really liked it. That car sold really fast and ever since I have been having a really tough time finding one with performance exhaust/seats and low miles.

The c450 has caught my interest and was wondering if any of you ever thought about it vs the CLA45? I have never driven one yet and the driving experience is the whole reason I like the CLA45. So if it doesn't drive nice it will be out.

Also when is the CLA going to change body style? Follow the typical 6 year MB does?

They changed the front end for the 2017 MY. It looks more like the c63 front end with the corner to corner frowny face.

The CLA pops and crackles in neutral. The c450 crackles over 4000rpm when you snap off the throttle.

I own a CLA45, it crack and pop if you in neutral reviving, changing gears, down shifting and if you are between 2k-3.6k rpm and left go of gas.

c450 run like 16 1/4 mile.

My CLA45 AMG with ECU tune runes 11.8 1/4 mile

C450
I was in the same boat as you and ended up choosing the 450. It felt like a much nicer place to be in with a slight tradeoff in performance. This was comparing a '15 CLA to a '16 C450 though

Exactly, same thing happened to me. Test drove both and loved both cars. Went with the C450 due to the interior being infinitely better and the bigger size, even if it was marginally slower in a straight line.

had a brand new C450 loaner for a week it was a great car I enjoyed it.
that's why you need to test drive one.

I still prefer my 45 AMG but that's me.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I ended up ruling out the C450 and actually added the W204 C63 to my list.

So now its between the CLA45 and the C63. I am going to drive one today and see how I like it.

Drive the CLA45 first. I test drive the C63 first and it ruined the C450 & CLA45 test drives after.

Too many to list
C63 all the way if you can afford the maintenance. It might be a dated platform but still better than a cla.

MERCEDES GLA45
Just keep in mind that the C450 is dead and has been replaced by the 9 speed C43. My car is scheduled not replace my current Renntech GLA 45 mid August. I had a CLA45 prior to the GLA and found the GLA to be an all around better handler though on paper, there should not have been much difference. Each ride has its merits and you give up a bit of performance to get a lot better finish and more creature comforts in the C. Have fun

Very steep discounts can be found on the C450 right now since it is being re-branded and the 9g added for MY 2017.

Make sure you test drive that C63 over some rougher pavement if this is going to be a daily driver. That suspension is probably much firmer than what you are used to in your 335.

"C450 runs like 16s in the 1/4 mile"? are you guessing now? All the sudden your car with a tune runs magically 11.8? Who are you? you have absolutely no credibility on this forum what so ever. Nothing.

If you are coming here and saying that a C450 runs "like 16" in a 1/4 mile you might as well find yourself in a forum that fits your throll style like BS forum. Like I said with the simple two or 3 post that you made already here you don't sounds experienced.

From looking at the order guide, it seems like the C43 has a panoramic sunroof as standard now?

If so, that would be a deal breaker for me.

*EDIT* Never mind, looks like it's only the coupe, not the sedan, that gets the sunroof as standard.

My issues with the CLA45 AMG over C class cars and E class cars is the 4 Matic is not full time althought in and out are hard to detect, the front geometry at full steering angles causes tire slippage and particularly when the tires are at 15C.
When I change I will get a used C63 with the 507. It is faster than the CLA45 based on on track tests against my friends C63.

Forget the theoretical and actually drive them.

The C450 is a unique animal and the rear bias in the AWD is evident as soon as you take a corner at speed. It does not plow like an some of the other FWD biased AWD systems out there.

Both are amazing cars. Test drive both, start with the cla45. I liked the cla45 better, prefer a full AMG treatment. Who cares that the c450 awd is a little different. Would you really take that car to the track?

I would take the c450 to the track, it grips just as good if not better than the cla45 given equal tires. The rwd bias is very noticeable taking corners, it does not understeer like the cla45.

After driving both, spending alot of time in my cousins cla45 and buying the c450, the c450 is more neutral and you can get the rear out when needed.

A set of good tires, pads, brake fluid is all you need on the c450 to enjoy it at a track.

What ever floats your boat that's the beauty of choice.

I'm not fond of the 4matic system in the 450 it has the same transfer case as my C300 that's already been replaced.
