For Sale: 1970 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 - Unrestored Original - Michigan

1970 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 sedan. Beige exterior with tan leather interior. Unrestored 2-owner car, 130,921 miles. Original 6.3L V8 engine and 4-speed automatic transmission. This car is equipped with its original Becker radio, 14” Mercedes alloy wheels, all original equipment including fully-functioning air suspension. This is a very original car which was a daily driver from 1970-1989 and a sunny-day vehicle from 1989-present.

VIN: WDB 109.018-12-003340

109 = W109 chassis
0 = gasoline fuel system
18 = S-Class sedan 300 SEL series 1965-1972
1 = LHD
2 = Automatic Transmission
003340 = sequence number 3340

This is one of 6,526 300SEL 6.3L sedans produced between 1967-1972.

Below is a description of each area of the vehicle.

Body: The body is straight with no damage. Body flaws are noted below.
• Rust in the rocker panels on both sides
• Rust behind the passenger rear wheel
• Rust bubbles in the fender next to the left headlight
• Rust bubble on trailing edge of passenger front door
All body panels fit well and appear original to the vehicle. There are no signs of previous accident damage.

Paint: The beige paint in good condition with good shine. The body was repainted the original color in 1977-1978 due to vandalism (scratched paint on both sides). The paint could benefit from a good buff and polish. The passenger front door has chips along its trailing edge (see pictures).

Glass: The windows are in excellent condition.

Trim: The trim is in good condition with minor dings in the body side molding.

Underbody: The frame and underbody is quite clean for a 47 year-old Michigan vehicle: only minor corrosion is visible.

Interior: The interior is in good condition with all components present and functional. The tan leather seats show wear on the seat bottom but sit very well. The carpet is in good condition. The dash and door panels are in very good condition. The wood is in excellent condition. The radio works and is in excellent condition.

HVAC: Both the air conditioning and heat function properly. The A/C as recharged in 2010 with R-12 refrigerant.

Engine: The engine is correct and original to the car: it has never needed a major repair. Since buying it in 1989, the current owner has replaced the water pump, fuel pump, and oil lines. The engine starts rights immediately and runs nicely with good oil pressure.

Transmission & Driveline: The 4-speed automatic transmission is original to the car and has never needed a major repair. It shifts well. The driveshaft has been replaced.

Cooling System: The current owner had the radiator professional cleaned and serviced. He also replaced the thermal valve.

Fuel System: The current owner replaced the fuel pump and fuel lines. He also had the fuel tank professionally cleaned and sealed.

Suspension: The air suspension was rebuilt by the owner using Mercedes-Benz components. The steel air lines and all 4 air bags were replaced. The system functions as intended. It does have a very small leak where the car will lose suspension height after sitting for a few weeks. Neither the owner nor his local independent M-B Service Center (Karl-Heinz Auto Center) can locate this leak. The owner also replaced wheel bearings and tie rods, and had the front end aligned.

Brakes: Brake system was completely rebuilt by the current owner with new steel lines, rotors, and new calipers. It stops very well.

Exhaust: The exhaust is original to the car and performs as intended.

Wheels & Tires: Mercedes-Benz 14” wheels with good tires.

The car was purchased from its original owner in 1989 with about 109k miles. The current owner has used it as a sunny-day vehicle, driving it about once every 2 weeks in nice weather. It currently has 130,921 miles. It has been garaged the duration of his ownership. The vehicle has been maintained by the owner (former mechanical and degreed mechanical engineer) and Karl-Heinz Auto Center (independent Mercedes-Benz service center) in Royal Oak, Michigan. All maintenance history for this vehicle from new is available.

The current owner has enjoyed his 28 years of driving this very special Mercedes-Benz. It is ready for the next owner to enjoy it as it or perform the cosmetic and rocker panels repairs to make it a showpiece again.

Price: $16,900

Please contact Mark (owner) at 248-330-5331 9am-9pm EST or email at marek.lejzorowicz@gmail.com . The car is located in Milford, Michigan.
