Idle Swede,
This one's for you, on how to change your Internet Explorer setting to stop resizing images. If you really are a Swede, then, other than free your country in WW2, don't say America never did anything for you. This should help with the imaging problem.

I like pancho, he comes here and actulally posts good info. I always would go out and buy a new maf, now I can clean it.
For all you haters leave him alone, hes actually contributing unlike alot of others.
I have been here longer than most of you, and I have seen this forum through its' up's and down's and you should all be grateful for a good do it yourself, even if you dont know how to use internet explorer.
Oh wait, I forgot everyone here is cheap and doenst want to go to the dealer, but then whine when its not the right format to read.

Pancho, I finally cleaned the MAF on my W209 CLK55, and the write up was a great guide. The intake and MAF housing are almost identical to the W208.
The funny thing was, that my MAF sensor was not that dirty!! It was a little disappointing, like opening a treasure box, but no treasure.
We cleaned it anyway, and I kept remembering your note of "Leaves No Residue"! The clamp and the clip were there just like in your photos. We also sprayed my throttle body/plate to clean some of that crankcase residue. the car feels crisper and the instructions were on point. Thanks again~!

MAF Circular Clasp Stuck
Pancho and others, thanks so much for these great instructions. I've been stuck, however, for the past hour or so struggling to take off that circular ring that is holding the MAF in place.
I managed to remove the electrical connector just fine, but the damned ring has me stumped. Which way am I supposed to push it? I tried releasing the metal clasp in back, and then tried to wiggle it out but still to no avail.
Should that ring come out with the MAF? Should it stay, and only the MAF should come out? Do I push the little latch toward the back or the car or towards the front of the car... Seems stupid but I just can't get it.
Appreciate the help!!!

Sounds like your engine mounts may be bad - search for that here. It causes engine vibration.

I don't think it's the mounts as the car seems to be chugging put of the exhaust and is accompanied by a smell.

2000 CLK430 P0170/P0173 error codes
Bought this CLK in 2009 with 11700 miles on it - nice car and enjoying the ride. Now 25k on it. From what I can gather, the original owner drove 7k the first year and then from 2001 - 2008 the car did 400 miles. However my SEL came on and codes shown were 130, 170 and 173. I removed the MAF according to Pancho's instructions and I must say that me not being a regular car mach - they were excellent and helpful. I cleaned the MAF but after 6 miles SEL was on again but only with 170 and 173. Going to try a second cleaning. I have not noticed any sluggish driving from the car as some folks have stated.
Does this sound like a bad MAF and should just go ahead and replace it?

On another note, if you can't figure out how to make the pictures ENLARGE on Explorer...maybe you shouldn't be working on your car. Let alone pulling on the hood release..

My 02 CLK 430 started idling rough after a road trip, no check engine lights or anything , lots of crap was in the air filter housing , cleaned it out and the air filters were not that dirty. Will try to clean the maf sensor tomorrow. Has power and runs fine just idles rough.

See post #43. My 02 CLK 55 had the same symptoms and I ended up cleaning the things that you're cleaning when it turned out to be bad engine mounts.
It runs smooth and quiet at idle, like new now. Was going to even do an expensive turn up but did the mounts and that was it. Good luck and please report back what the issue ended up being.

Newguy2008 after seeing your post on my Blackberry I talked to a guy at MB dealership concerning the mounts they wanted almost 2g to do them! So then I was wondering if it was bad gas, since it happened since the middle of the trip and throughout I was skeptical so I ran it almost dry and filled up at the one I usually use by my house and sure enough runs great now , had to use belt dressing spray to get rid of a odd sound on idler pulley just cause I hear it pulling out of my garage. The thing I remember now it was the same station I used during half the trip I used on the way back and im almost certain the premium isnt premium there!! I even had a pinging rattle when I started the engine. Now I feel great in it and the weather is nice enough to have the top down all day. OH ny the way I didnt even bother cleaning the maf lol thanks for saving me some unnecessary time.
