If you end up getting that type of work done to your car. big ups to you man.
just make sure it won't mess up in the long run.

so it could basically be achieved by just making a custom bracket that will allow the caliper to be bolted to that custom bracket that will be bolted to the car?

That’s all there is to a "kit". It’s basically some other car's rotors and/or calipers, and "the brackets" (sometimes hoses, if needed). The first mold of the bracket can be made of wood. However, the final product should be made of the strongest material you can find. The last thing you want to do is dive on the brakes north of 100 MPH, hear a *CLACK* (the sound of the bracket breaking), and feel the brake pedal sink to the floor (because a "bracket free” caliper just fell off and took the brake line with it). Actally, if you come up with a good combo, (Mercedes + some other guy's brakes) there may be a market. You could be the Bill Gates of Mercedes Benz braking systems. I've even got your company name picked out; BBH Sign me up as your west coast distributor. That is, unless some nitwit with a good lawyer gets killed because they installed the caliper upside down. In that case, I've never heard of you.

There's no sarcasm. Half the CLK430 guys want bigger brakes. There's no doubt about that. The 55 guys are paying so much for discs, that they'll gladly pay for a kit. The 55 guys are paying $300 per side in front rotors and the pads are another $200. Eight bills for factory brakes. Compare that to $166 per side for for OEM 996 Carrera / Boxster S rotors. Porsche OEM 2001-2005 996 Turbo rotors are only $214 per side. If you could sell a bracket that allowed CLK55 guys to run 996 Turbo rotors, you'd have a line of customers from your house to San Diego.
Now for the bad news, Porsche rotors won't work because they use a 5-130 bolt pattern. However, if you find a 5-112 performance rotor, all you need is a bracket to reposition the caliper. After they pay for the bracket, the 55 guys can buy bigger discs for half as much. Brakes By Hersh practically sells itself. My commission check is in the mail, right? I'm going to Reno this weekend, and a commission check would come in handy. |
