Yes.

Didn't read the entire topic, so, this solution is for those rag top owners who are unable to get the trunk open for reasons other than locking their keys in the trunk. I have never locked my keys in the trunk (yet). That would be a dilly alright--a genuinely sticky situation. Now, if the trunk lock solenoid fails; or the pneumatic assist fails; or the mechanical tumblers fail,; or the mechanical key fails, then, this is the solution, but, locking the keys in the trunk, well, that's a real pickle, and it likely becomes an upholstery issue.

In my case, some years ago, the solenoid failed, jamming the latch, such that the mechanical key could not turn the lock. I had a client's large case file which I was expected to present at a hearing that afternoon. I had called the dealer, and was going to take the vehicle in so that they could get the trunk open, when, from the ether, the half top solution occurred to me. It was a beautifully simple solution, which I had never shared with anyone, so, I was happy to offer it here. Of course, like all solutions, it doesn't solve every problem. Alas, I wish it did.

oh the irony!, I was reading this post over the last few days and thought i'd better not lock my keys in the boot as I only have one set.... and guess what bloody happened tonight at -5oC ! YEP I was coming back from the shops and I wanted to get in the car quick as it was cold and I shut the boot and went to get my keys from my pocket but realised I had just locked them in the boot ! AARRRGH .

I asked the store for a coat hanger but they didnt have any just plastic ones!.... after searching around I ripped a piece of wire off their fence and proceeded to gain entry through the window which is easy to slip in the metal as theres no frame. Its now dark, and the torch app on my phone was all I had, but the phone battery was getting low so I had to work fast. I tried hooking the drivers door and got a good purchase... but it just would not pull the handle that last bit. I then tried the passenger door from the opposite side and voila I got in albeit with the alarm blaring.
I was hoping the boot release would work, but with the alarm triggered it didn't function? I then remembered reading a post about a small hole under the first aid box tray, so ripped this out and with my long piece of wire and torch phone app now and battery about to die, I shined it in and saw the keys, eventually I hooked the keys and brought them up through the hole with the wire.
Drove home after about 1hr freezing cold... but at least I know what to do in the future...

PS Two things.... I would love to know if there is a way of triggering the boot release from the engine or some trick you can do? does anyone know?... Also it would be great to have a wallet key, a small flat key of the one inside the alarm itself, can these be copied by a lock smith so I can keep a spare in my wallet and then I can open the boot or door.?

ALSO 'THEDON' can you pm me your method of gaining entry to a locked car and boot?

Thanks

99CLK320,
on the back deck of a coupe where the rear speakers are mounted is a first aid kit. I don't believe the cabs have one, do they?

No deck--a stow hatch for the rag top. I'd not heard of any 1st aid kit in any MB. Interesting.

WOW really? I thought it was standard item? I have had 190E, C180, E Class and they all had them. sometimes its in the arm rest drawer.
I think this weekend im going to cut a bigger hole under the first aid box tray so I can reach my arm in in case this ever happens again, and Im going to see if you can push the seat realease leaver from inside the boot as well...

pm plz

I appreciate the info. Always good for prevention...after looking at the info, maybe I might want to check my trunk more often before starting to drive off...

thanks for being cautious about posting too.

Keys in boot

So here is how i did it......I am posting this because I didnt get PM an so had to go at it alone...

I firstly removed seal driver door to try unhook the lock with a coat hanger....With no success I realised that withour removing any seals the coat hanger squeezes between the drivers and back seat window......I then after many attemptd (1hour) managed to hoow it around the handle and pull the door open....No damage.... (ensure there is a strong bend on the hanger as it is hard to pull door handle and can sometime just pull off of it).

Once it the car I removed the speaker on the back shelf and through a small class size hole under it managed to move things around in my boot until I spotted the shine of the keys....After many more attempts (30mins) managed to hook keys on hanger...No Damage

So all with a coat hanger and patients...No damage and bill. For anyone who has a problem with me posting this..think logically a thief is not gona have the hour and a half to do this with out getting spotted or loose thier patient. Good Luck people

Unhappy HELP!

[QUOTE=TheDon;3103037]Good afternoon,

My neighbour managed to lock his only set of keys in his boot this morning as he only used the button to pop the boot wich doesn't unlock the car then shut the boot with the keys still in there.

Within 5 mins or less we gained access to his car wich gave us access to his boot wich gave us access to his keys.

Would it be irresponsible for me to tell you guys how easy it is ? The only reason i ask is i would like to give something back to this community so if you dont mind i would like to tell you how we did it or should i just keep it to myslef."

Please, please, please can somebody tell me how I can get into my 2001 CLK 430 convertible? The whole car is locked and the keys are in the boot, along with my sons ski gear which he needs! I am about the worlds most unpopular mother right now.
