How seat and torque new A/T plug adapter 722.623 ???

How seat and torque new A/T plug adapter 722.623 ???

Question #1:
I installed a new A/T plug adapter.
Need know how the large O-ring seats.
Should the O-ring be visible, nesting between the adapter and trans housing ...
or should the O-ring be NOT be visible--completely within the trans housing?

Question #2:
I tightened the bolt in center of adapter tight w/o a torque wrench, then backed it out a bit and tightened again, gently. Could not find any torque setting for this small bolt. Does anyone know this torque setting ?

Thanks

PS. Am obviously doing the trans change/flush thing, and have stopped until I get some additional info, so that I don't cruise down the road leaving a fluid trail.

Unhappy Question

Same problem here. Just ordered the connector because is leaking.

Have you checked the ATF level? How much ATF did you loosed so far.
Any Tranny errors? 0700 or 0715?

Don't know how much fluid I lost because uncertain if dipstick tool is hanging and giving bad reading (no fluid show of dipstick at all), or if dipstick is bending and allowing me to push it in to far, and giving a bad reading (grossly overfilled, level up two inches higher than max marking). This was happening before I drained the pan, which I found to have 3 Qts. of fluid.

Posted this issue, but no one knows.

https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...623-trans.html

I can tell you that when I drained and removed the pan, that I took out right at 3 quarts. After I cleaned and replaced the pan, I put in 4 Qts., but I don't know if this is a good level because of the dipstick tool problem. Looks like I am going to have to drain and remove the pan so that I can do a visual on the marked end of the stick so that I can determine the correct length that the dipstick should be inserted into the dipstick tube.

Be advised to get as much info as you can by scouring multiple Benz forums, because every 'How To" will be missing some details. The link you sent me was from my own posting a month or so ago. I wish I could have been more helpful, but I am currently in the middle of the trans fluid change/flush job. By the way, depending on your vehicle, you might also need the dipstick tool.

If you are going to do the whole service, then here's a list of all the parts for doing the job on a 2000 CLK430 W208, 722.623. Be careful because different transmissions have different trans fluid specs.

I got most of my parts from ECS Tuning on the web.
In the parts list, the first price is from ECS, and the second price is from the local dealership.

Drain Plug Washer OEM Part # 1402710060 $ 0.85 $ 1.60
Pan Gasket OEM Part # 140-271-00-80 $ 12.34 $ 20.67
Pan Filter OEM Part # 140-277-00-95 $ 25.11 $ 25.11
Pan Magnet OEM Part # 220-271-00-98 $ 3.03 $ 32.50
Dipstick Lock Pin OEM Part # 140-991-00-55 $ 0.85 $ 1.60
AT Plug Adapter OEM Part # 203 540 02 53 $ 8.05 $ 15,00
Sub-Total: $ 50.23 $ 96.48

Got From Ebay
Dip Stick Tool OEM Part #140-589-15-21-00$32.00 $ 39.00
(ECS Tuning wanted $60.06)

Got From Walmart
Valvoline MaxLife ATF @ $3.67 X 15 $55.05 $ 412.50
TOTAL: $137.28 $547.98

Best of luck.

If I remeber correctly the O-rings were not visible at all. I have included a picture of where the O-rings were placed and it will hopefullt be obvious on why they will not show when installed. It's a CRUDE picture but the red bands show where the o-rings went on the old adapter. If they are showing then you might have not locked the adapter in properly. Make sure that the adapter is installed with the tab at the 7-8 O'clock position and then pushed in and turned till you hear a click. It was VERY hard for me to turn and I had to position myself every which way possible to get enough leverage to lock it in properly. But, after I heard the click and it was locked in I tightened the center bolt really tight and then backed off a bit as was stated to do in a couple other DIY's.

And good job on reducing the overall cost by a Sh**load!!! I wish I had known about the ATF fluid when I did my ATF change.

Pancho,

Do not over tight the connector use 2.5Nm torque

Finally found this :

WOW!! Now that is a proper albeit time consuming DIY!!! We should strive for DIY's like this when possible in order to properly help eachother out whenever possible.

How many torque wrenches does a man have to buy? Apparently, three is not enough. I have three torque wrenches, and, of course, none of them will calibrate at 2.5Nm. Looks like tomorrow I'm going to have to spring for $100 or so for a wrench that I'll probably only use one time. Good grief. Oh well, such is life for the MB owner/slave. Resistance is futile.

PS. Since MB has done away with the CLK, I would like to get a new E class coupe 55 cabriolet, 380HP or so. It is supposed to come out some time this year. Instead, just out of spite and a primal vengeance, I'm going to drive my CLK430 Cabriolet into the ground, until it eventually wears out like a pencil eraser, and I'm just standing in the road with a steering wheel in my hands.

I feel the exact same way, I love this car that much!!!! I will buy a new one when I get back but I still want this one as my DD. I just hit 143K miles so I am on my way to some HIGH mileage and its still running well.

Well, here it is--a little torque wrench, for a little bolt, and, fortunately, for just a little money. I'm done with this part of the project, I hope.

Here's the A/T Plug Adapter showing how the O Ring is seated. I torqued the Adapter to 2.5 Nm, buttoned up everything, flushed the fluid, put 50 miles on it, checked fluid again and topped it off, and, so far, no leaks. Looks like the O-Ring is still visible when properly seated. Here's a pic:

Changed my connector yesterday

When the plug cable was removed, it was soaked with ATF. My question is:

It is wise to replace the o-ring on the cable plug isn't it?

Someone has the o-ring part number?

I looked into this when I was doing the A/T adapter plug replacement and Trans. flush. Here is what I gleaned. Seems that this O ring was available some years ago. It has not been available for a few years. I called the local dealer about 2 weeks ago, and dealer did not even have a part number for it, but told me that it was no longer available. Multiple postings have indicated that it is not necessary. Apparently, the two O rings on the new adapter are sufficient to prevent a leak. I know that I finished my job about a week ago. I laid a few strips of white paper towels on my garage floor, and have been parking over them for two days now, without any sign at all of a leak. I hope I have been of help.

I also want to know it's Part Number, or its SIZE when it was a new one!
