Steering rack swap?

Has anyone swapped their steering box out for a steering rack? It would clear more room for longtube headers and also give better steering feeling at the same time. I can't believe MB put a steering box in a relatively modern car

Easier said than done, but YOU DA MAN so go for it!

I had Kleemann headers put on my 55 last year and they rub on driver's side against the steering mechanism at full right lock. The vibration is more annoying than serious - but worse perhaps the mechanic hammered dents into the downpipe to make it clear better. Kleemann blames the engine mounts - but the MB techs said they were OK. The car is in for B service this week so I said change the mounts whether they need it or not to see it that helps.
