center console - options

My 2008 CLK550 has cup holders and a sliding-lid style center console.

Does anyone know if this is peculiar to North American models and/or if European spec models have a center console without cup holders, please..?

I don't drink in the vehicle and consider the cup holders to be unsightly dust traps (each to his own, I know)

Saw a console lid upgrade online, which suggests there is a version of center console with a conventional hinged lid. Searched all over and came up with no answers.

Any information would be appreciated, thank you.

You'll probably have better luck in the W209 section.

i have that lid that you speak of, german car, i think its standard.
anyways to see more of it, i made a thread a while back about adding computer and running spotify in the car, with a 7" liliput monitor, all installed and working great
look it up if you want to see pics of the lid
