I feel a knock or tap through my steering wheel?
Hi Guys
I have a strange tap or light knock that I feel through my steering which only happens when I accelerate quickly from standstill and I just feel the one tap or knock and nothing after it?
I checked the ball joints and steering joints and they seem not too bad although one track rod end has a tiny bit of movement, could this be what I feel that is sending the knock through the steering mechanism? Could it be worn engine mounts and the engine is hitting something?
Thanks

If you hear a thump on stiff acceleration, then...
(Pregnant pause awaiting your statement, "It's just a click." and disregarding the remainder of this response.)
raise the hood, stand in front of the engine bay, have a friend start the car, and stab the accelerator pedal to the floor for about 2-3 seconds, and see how high the engine lifts. If it freaks you out by how high it lifts, then, change your underwear, then, change the motor mounts.
This can result in a thump when:
1. on stiff acceleration the engine stretches a worn motor mount to its limit.
2. on quick deceleration the engine comes down hard onto a worn motor mount.
3. on stiff acceleration the engine separates from a failed motor mount and slams into the hood.
