Wind deflector parts
While cleaning my recently purchased 430CLK I came across a pull tab at the bottom front of the rear seat. To my surprise it was a black mesh that when pulled all the way it reached the top of the door. Can someone share what this is all about? The car came with no other parts.

You're missing a very important part of the wind deflector system. that was standard equipment on the cabriolet models (e.g. see picture of entire system).
The missing part is a mechanism that drops into 2 slots just behind the seat belt exit. It has a permanent fixed vertical mesh section, as well as a horizontal pull out mesh screen, that extends to cover the rear seating area. The under the seat mesh pull out that you do have, when extended, attaches to the part you don't have.
Hope you can come up with the missing piece, because the wind deflector system works quite well (e.g. greatly diminishes wind turbulence and noise).

I have two spring loaded holes on each side of the backseat. Is this for an additional windscreen? If so, does anyone have a part number or vendor to buy from?

The wind deflector came as standard equipment on the CLK and installs into the spring loaded holes as shown in the above posted thumbnail, as well as the owner's manual.
It's designed to be portable, because when deployed there will be no rear seating for passengers.
If ever a replacement is needed, due to damage, not included when buying a previously used CLK, they sometimes can be purchased on EBay, a forum for sale or part-out post etc..
However, you have a E class and should address that forum for more specific answers.

Purchased on eBay part is still expensive new ($1200). Works as Serendipity described and worth the eBay price ($300). Thanks again for the information.
