Oil leak!!

Back again, again, and again.....

Well, I guess problems exist to test us!!!

So I found oil leak while I was doing my steering damper. Leak is right at the centre, I can't tell where it is coming from, I will take a photo within this week, hopefully some of you MB enthusiast could help me out.

My 1st month of ownership, and issues are already showing up.

"MB has issues if not maintained, but you forgive it when you drive it." I wonder why??? I guess is the brand!!

Cheers

I didn't jack up the car. Took some quick photos with my phone camera.

Sorry, not very good quality. I will take more when I visit the shops.

I would wipe as much as possible and watch for new leakage.

I second cindyclk. We cant tell from the pictures where the leak is because everything is covered in oil.

I would start by checking the valve cover gaskets. My passenger side one sprung a leak (145,000km) and it seems to migrate down to the steering dampener. I traced it to the valve cover gaskets. Easy fix if you have the right tools, time and patience.

Could be your rear main seal as well. Super common on Mercedes.

I need recommendation on buying a car ramp. I don't trust jack stands alone.

I am planning to buy extra for safety;
1. Car ramp
2. Bottle jack
3. Extra pair of jack stand.

I want to buy those before I start checking the oil leak, I think I will leave the car overnight on the car ramp in search of the leak.

Went to the mechanic.

He said Rear Main Seal are gone. I guess this is not a DIYable job.

He also recommend me to do Left valve gasket, Right valve gasket, and Oil pan gasket all at the same time.

Valve Gasket:
Left 1130160221OE
Right 1130160321OE

https://www.autohausaz.com/search/pr...Cover%20Gasket

I can't seem to find Oil pan gasket, and Rear main seals parts. Is there a special name for it?

Cheers

Hi MB enthusiast

I took some photos of the valve cover seals, it does look like they are leaking. It seems to me (correct me if I am wrong) that the drip isn't big enough to reach the bottom. Am I wrong?? Could it have evaporated due to engine heat.

Right valve photos

Left valve gasket

Does anyone have a photo of where the Rear Main Seals are situated, or a leaking rear main seal photo.

Cheers, and thanks for the help

After doing some search i am really confused about the name for the seal.

I have seen

1. Shaft seal (http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...20Shaft%20Seal)

2. Rear Main Seal (http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/se...al&N=0&submit=)

3. Output shaft seal (http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/se...put+Shaft+Seal)

In this video, the main seal (what ever they call it) is green. (
)

Hope you guys can help out

Cheers
