Planned Engine swap, need advice
Hi all, nice to find a place full of people who appreciate the brand.
I bought a used e 430 w210 '98 a few months ago and i enjoy it immensely, however, i was recently told to replace the gearbox. While searching for a replacement i realized i have the chance to purchase a clk 200 w208 '99. I was wondering if i could swap engines between the two and sell off my e class as a e 200 then keep the clk as a 430.
since i will have both cars and swap from each will there be any additional items required? Straight out purchasing a clk 430 is not possible as i would have to import it.
Any help is much appreciated

so i understand that my swap is a move from a v6 to a v8 engine and areas of concern would be some of the below
1) Engine mounts
2) Transmission
3) ECU
my question is, since i already have the full E430 and i will have the full clk 200, will i need much else? apart from transplanting the engine and electronics?

I think you're going to need a full engine wiring harness. And mounts. And then there's the transmission. The CLK200 uses a 722.605 transmission. The E430 and CLK430 uses a 722.623. Let me start off by saying I don't know the inner workings of both transmissions. However, I do know that MB rates transmissions by torque. The non-supercharged two liter M111 has 140 pound feet of torque. The 430 is an M113 and it has more than twice that much torque. Will the 430 break the 200's transmission? Probably. Will the E430 transmission work? Yes, well, maybe. You'll need the E's TCU. Which is just as well because the TCU for the 722.605 may have had issues with the M113 ECU. But maybe not, I've never done this. And you may need a driveshaft. And then there's the issue of the diff. What's the final gear ratio in a CLK200. Based on the little engine, I'm going to guess it's a lot taller than a 320 ratio, which is higher than a 430 ratio, and based on what others have said, the TCU isn't going to like it. But what do I know, I'm just goin' hmmm . . . . . .

So since i have the entire engine and the works, including the wiring harness and mounts plus gearbox and TCU, my main concern becomes whether it will all fit in. I am now ready to purchase the clk and have found a mechanic to do the swap, however rather than just trusting his word i want to do my own research.
Can't wait

The engine swap will work, but the transmission won't!
As already stated your E Class has higher gearing than the CLK and the TCU will not be compatable and throw codes. It will be cheaper for you to get a replacement transmission for your E430 as you will still need a trans with TCU. If you really want a CLK430 then part ex your E for one.
All mechanical parts will transfer over, but with Mercedes it's the electronics that catch you out!
Hope that helps before you buy the CLK!
