2002 CLK430
does your air recirculate turn off by itself?

Symptom: recirculate air turned on, red light iluminates... about 15-20 min later, light is off.

is this normal?

NM... found out this is normal after a search on the W209 forum. Really annoying.

Yes its designed that way. The reason is to avoid stale air that can make you sleepy on a long drive. Personally I'd rather have it closed longer or have the ability to cycle open and closed as most newer automatic climate system do. Also the ac system works better when humid/hot air flows over the coils to avoid freezing it up which is a pretty bad thing for long term wear. Think corrosion and pinholes.
