shifter problem

Hi guys I have a bit of a different shift problem in my clk 320. From park to drive sometimes fails to shift. No drinks spilled. Drive to park sometimes won't engage into park thus key removal is not possible and car won't start until locked in park. Shifts 1-4 are fine. Slamming so to speak the shifter forward a couple times locks it into park. Repeating park to drive a couple times engages drive so far. So the question is do I need to replace to whole shifter unit or is there a switch in the shifter I can replace or?

Thanks

Sounds more like an issue with your shift lever linkage (e.g. worn bushing?).

While not common, there have been some issues with the shifter linkage.

Try searching here or at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/

Hint: for best results, the choice and order of your key words is key (e.g. 1st word has more importance than the next and so on).

Just a follow up. This was easily fixed with a new green bushing from the dealer. I installed it from underneath the car. The linkage was obviously loose. I make a simple press with a bolt a couple of washers and a small section of sprinkler pvc. After install there was still a little slack which was eliminated by tightening the little torx screw on the link arm. Needed, press for bushing, torx drive, long needle nose pliers, agile fingers and a bit of patience.
