Question Muffler / Cats CLK320

What is the size of our muffler ? I need to redo my muffler.
also the size of our rear cats, not the front with the o2 sensor..
Mine is rattling and need new ones.
I heard some of you used the magnaflow ? I assuming i need to buy 2.
IF so, what is the model/ number of the magnaflow air flow cats converter?
Ty in advance

What up Mike?

Fortunately for you... you don't have to worry about California's strict emission laws. Therefore, you can get away with any type of cats that you want.

There aren't that many "exact" ones made for our cars. There's a lot of universal fitment applications which is perfectly fine.

You'll need two rear cats.

The ones from MagnaFlow are... 99205HM or 51205

Not sure what your current exhaust setup is like, but this is for 2.25 inch inlet and outlet piping.

What's your current muffler / exhaust setup?

Depending on what you're trying to achieve as far as power, weight reduction, sound, etc., be sure to do more research.

When I had the CLK, I kept all my primary cats stock, replaced my secondary cats with Flowmaster high flow cats, deleted my resonator, and had a custom built muffler canister. With that setup, I gained noticeable power up top, but had a slight power loss in the low end. However, the sound was amazing. Although it was just a V6, it sounded like a muscular V8 due to its rumble (deeper than MagnaFlow).

Here are some mufflers that would/should fit... (be sure to double-check)

Ty boss for getting back to me..
im going to get these, same what u said but cheaper. Go.nna order 2 since i need 2
http://www.ebay.com/itm/361066213972...S:1123&vxp=mtr

Funny that you said that, I was looking for flowmaster ( i used to Trans am beefed up back in the days )as well but i wanted delta 44, its heavier than 40.

Well I just want aggressive sound and some hp.. Im saving up for a GTR, so im def done with this car, just gonna keep it for daily driving and GTR is on the weekend.

As far as iknow, I have kept my 2 front cats and middle and deleted my resonator and have a custom muffler, cant recall the name.

im def going with the 2 magnaflow and a flow master exhaust but how would i know if I need 2 or 2.25 or 2.50 ect?
if i call the dealer would they be able to tell me what size is my muffler and cats?

Wow... a GTR? Sounds like you're not that far away from getting one.

Measuring your existing piping isn't a problem. It can be measured using something as simple as a loose measuring tape. Once you get the measurement, subtract 1/4th inch from that number (the thickness of the pipe), and you should have a pretty accurate idea of the size of your pipe.

I don't recall, but I wanna say that the CLK320's have 2.25 inch stock piping. Maybe someone can chime in and confirm. It's been a while since I've done exhaust work on that car. I've changed my piping so many times that I don't remember what size was stock.

There are quite a few ways of playing around with sound on the CLK's. I've seen some custom work from a guy who isn't a member of the forums. He did this setup below. (I just put flowmaster for illustrative purposes). His setup was with larger piping directly after the secondary cats. In the picture below, I showed larger piping before and after the secondary cats only because some brands offer larger diameter openings.

However, if you decide to use high flow cats, you definitely may want to keep the piping the same size (as stock) throughout the midsection to prevent any low-end power loss.

The diagram above gives the car a nice deep roar rather than rasp.

To answer your question about the dealer, I honestly don't know if the specs appear in their system.

Keep us posted with a vid sometime.

GXSR's notes look right. It's about a 60mm outer diameter tubing from the exhaust manifold to the merge after the secondary cats. Then it jumps to 65mm.

Planned changed! going with straight pipes and keeping my front 2 cats with O2 sensor so light won't come on. Getting my car done now !
The 2 cats didnt fit at all and could not find a Y connector that fit . Spacing is too small.
Ll make a video tomorrow
