Photo needed of right rear shock tower

Does anyone have a photo of there right rear shock tower from inside the trunk? I need to make a weld repair to the sheet metal to the right of my right rear shock tower. See attached picture.

I need to know if it should be flat like the left side or have a bow to it for the fuel fill line.

Thanks!

Since no one has helped you yet, I can get you one this weekend. My car is at a buddy's garage going through an engine swap and tranny servicing so once I head over to help this Friday, I'll pull back the carpet and snap you a pic. One concern though: not sure if the shock tower construction differentiates between the coupe and the cab, and I have the coupe.

How'd that happen?

Good luck with your troubles, that looks like a tough one.

In the mean time, I did some browsing and found this photo of a right shock tower for a 430 Cab... Looks like you have some serious damage.

Thank you for stepping up!

Thanks CJ. I hit a massive pothole I am sure. Car is at a body shop waiting for some serious help. The shop, and others I have spoken to, don't even have the resources to show what that sheet metal looks like.

I saw the photo of the 430, but it doesn't quite show enough of the side wall; there is sound insulation that is covering most of the side.

What's going in with your car?

No problem. Like I said, I'll get a pic for you Friday and it will be much better than this low-res image and I'll make sure to pull back all of the carpet. But wow I'm shocked that a pothole may have done that to your suspension point. Are the stock shocks still on your car? And if so could they have been blown?

5.4 N/A AMG motor with AMG ECU/TCU to start, as well as a tranny overhaul. But a couple weeks later will be boost with a Vortech V3.

My word! My car is a tortoise in comparison. My son has been begging me to upgrade the speed to my car for the last two years. It's just not worth the price; would be better off buying a used w208 v8 or 55.

Hit a pothole back in July and bent a rim along with a filling bit must have been the cause. I purchase new rear shocks to swap out after the repair. I have an extra set of springs to install too in case one was cracked too. This will be my chance to see if the H & R's are any better then the Eibachs. I had the H & R's on with Bilstein Sports when it happened.

It's definitely not worth the price! After searching for a new car for a while, I had a stroke of luck and came across an ad from a benz tech selling the 55 motor and a vortech nearby. The tech offered a price I couldn't pass up and now we're working on the car together. Pretty soon I'll have a perfect 4.3 v8 laying around that I'd probably be willing to just give away.

Watch out for those potholes! It's crazy how much damaged happened. H&R lowers a bit more than eibach I believe, but as far as stiffness I dont think you'll notice a difference as that has more to do with the shock. I've never had Bilstein Sports but I've had the Koni adjustables in the past and they were incredible in my opinion. They were very stiff and harsh, but I wasnt in need of a nice ride because luckily the roads are perfect around here.

Hey,

I unfortunately did not get a chance yesterday. Tow-truck driver taking my car to a friends lift was lazy, slow, and almost crashed 3 times which made me late to the airport.

The car is over on the lift right now and I should be heading over tonight to do some work at which time I'll snag a pic.

A lift?

Hi CJ

Thanks for the update. I appreciate your help. So you get time on a lift? That's fantastic. I spent two hours under my nephews Jeep Cherokee this somer, yet with all that room under there u felt like my arms were going to fall off.

Thank you for the picture Tery. It's clear to see now that the bulg around the tare on my inner fender should be pushed all the way back slightly more than flush with the rest if the sheet metal. Hopefully the insurance company will cover the full inner/outer fender replacement.

BTW, what kind of results did you get with the EVO pulley? There is one one eBay that I was considering; not an EVO but Aluminum and light weight.

Hi CJ,

Any chance you can still send me the photo. It appears Tery's car does not match mine. I believe he has a coupe; his shock tower does nit look like mine.

Thank you

I have a coupe as well. I'm picking the car up from my friends' lift tonight, so I will finally be able to get you a pic

I apologize for the delay.

I can get a good one at first light as well, My rear interior is pulled apart anyway from an AMP install.

Looks like the spring perch broke and the spring tried to come up through the inner apron panel.

Sucked the perch mount into a v position. An ugly repair for the most part. had some trunk photos but none from that area, First light we can see better.

I just got it:

About the same

Cheers, Gator

Thanks for the cab clk 55 photo! My spring perch was fine. Is that what you thought happened to mine or did you have that problem.

If you look at my photo you can see that the surrounding area of my crack shows an arched area that is pushed in towards the trunk. Is yours like that or is it flat? I can't tell with the black insulating material in the way.

Sirswift93 are you the 1st owner of the car ? If not any repaired history ?
I ask because from your pic there is a round hole , it might be there to stop a crack from growing. Not sure maybe it's just a bolt hole

I am the original owner. I remember a rubber grommet being in that hole you are referring. Can anyone else with a CAB confirm that there is a whole there?

Thanks

After studying the two photo's the inner pillars appear to be different.

I looked close at your photo and it looks like the spring or sway bar through the cracks.

There is nothing under that black sound deaden-er in my photo besides more silver paint.
Never been in an accident (car fax) and no rust on the chassis, A bit on the bottom of drivers door which is normal and an easy fix. The cab's doors are strengthened and do not drain well, especially with ground effects trim.

Might help to have a 98-02 320 chassis cab shot as well for comparison.

Merry X-mas Folks, Gator

Spring and its perch are fine. If I can get a picture of that wall off of a Cabriolet then I can repair the wall correctly.

Can someone with a Cabriolet / convertible please take some pictures of their right side shock wall? You will have to remove or pull away the sound retarder panel to get a full shot.

Thank you,

Swift
