Please Help Electrical Issues

Good morning everyone. I reaching out to everyone here because you folks seem to be the experts. I have an electrical problem with my 2001 CLK 320 Cabriolet.

Last summer I started experiencing some issues with the car.

1) Soft top wont operate automatically
2) No high beam headlights
3) drivers seat switch operates weird
4) Rear head rests will not lower

From reading the wealth of information in the forums I believe it is a problem linked to a SAM module. So I called the local MB dealer and they said the SAM module is $1000 and about $500 to install. I find this strange because I see them online for $100 - $150. MB said that SAM controllers are VIN specific and have to be programed on the spot. So my question Is, is this true?

My second question is where is the rear SAM controller? I have been told it is in the trunk near the battery. All I see there is a fuse block. I have removed it and turned it upside down and it has nothing underneath. Can any adivse me where this thing is?

Well $1,000 is downright rediculous. *** Stealerships!

Not sure we have a rear SAM I thought it was just the one located in main fuse box.

I do think they need to be programmed to your specific vehicle but $500 sounds steep to me... Maybe someone else could chime in who has experience with swapping them out?
