2000 CLK430 Kleemann: Rattle while coasting in gear
The car is a 2000 CLK430 coupe with 125,000 miles. It has a Kleemann supercharger intake combination. I believe it has a modified exhaust but it is lowered two inches and I can't get under it to verify.
The rattle occurs primarily at 60mph and around 2000rpm when I feather the throttle to where there is no acceleration and the engine is not slowing the car. It is fairly loud and at first I thought it was combustion in the exhaust system. Since I can't duplicate the noise at any other speed or rpm and it goes away coasting in neutral I belive it is the transmission.
The noise also does not occur during acceleration or when the engine is used to slow the car. There does seem to be more transmission noise when coasting in gear than there there was before.
Other than this the car runs great and there are no check engine lights or warnings.
Please help.
Thanks

Is it a whine or a rattle/vibration? The 430 trans was never meant to have more than 300 torque, which is why the 55 AMG's have the 722.636 trans vs the 722.632 in the 430. Adding the power with the supercharger would cause premature driveline issues. Whining could be your diff, vibrations could be your trans. I would assume it's a little bit of both.

It is definitely a vibration or rattle. The blower is not new addition but was installed before the car was sold as new. Any ideas on what to do? I can pull the transmission and take it to have it rebuilt but then it will fail again. Is there a beefier transmission that will bolt up? I'm open to any ideas.

Perform a tranny service to see if there's any metal bits in the oil pan. If there are then swap your trans with a 722.636, you will need and AMG tcu for it and someone to tune the ecu to mate with the 430 motor.
