My 2000 CLK430 wiper transmission (91K) is making a clunking sound like a clunk clunk clunk clunk for every swipe - even with the wiper arm off. Motor seems very strong. Bearings on the outside mechanism seem ok. Minimal play and they spin smoothly although they probably didn't before the lube I gave it this weekend. No real side to side play on the rollers to the slides. The top part of the transmission that contains the gears etc seems to have some play and although I haven't taken it off yet it also seems dry. On high you hear almost a banging noise like something isn't tight. On low its pretty much the same just not as loud. Not grinding and it moves freely without hesitation. Center bearing shot? Really don't want to spend the 500+ for a new one is it worth buying a used one that looks fairly clean with lower mileage.
