On to the interior...

Door panel issue

Like the two-tone idea?

So the new head unit is in and working... whew! Next I'm going to work on the interior. The fabric on the lower door panel looks liker it was hot glued in the past, and its coming off in new places, so I'll develop a plan to recover that. It looks like I need to remove the entire door panel, so, yeah, I'll do that. Thank goodness I'm not paying myself by the hour! It is enjoyable to do the work, though. My seats look a bit rough, so I had an estimate to get them dyed... $1,800 I've read MarcusF's article on DIYing this, and will give it a shot. If I do, I think I will make the seats two-tone, to match the light and dark gray in other places in the interior - light gray on the perforated parts and darker gray on the other panels.

Thoughts?

I'm here - has any one replaced the fabric on the bottom? I'm wondering if I can leave this under part here and glue over it...?

Tricky bit about recovering the door card fabric is the section with fabric (and all parts of the composite door card) are by in large plastic welded together.. as such removing the element to give optimal access to recover may require destruction of the factoy plastic melted weld.. meaning to refix you would likely need to re plastic weld it as adhesive will likely fail in time..
Perhaps worth looking into this and researching others who may have done plastic wedeld parts reapir.
As an aside, while the cards are off its a great oppurtunity to Dynamat the doors..

For the seats i'd personally get the color match Surflex paint and do oit myself.. $1800.. thats nuts..

It is a frustrating design! I have a plan, and Im on it this weekend. I'm documenting and will share - no matter if it turns out good or bad.

Agreed on the seats - that's next.

I am going to be redoing the door card fabric on my CLK. I have done something similar on my 10 Camaro SS. The inner door coves were plastic welded on it as well. The trick is to cut the welds clean, have very short screws and washers to reattach the door card. I have a couple projects ahead of my door panels, but plan on documenting what I am going to do to post here.
