Nice story on W208's in the latest Star magazine

And it features a shout out to Klaus and Top Hydraulics - who also saved me (along with Serndipity). Thanks again!

JG403....thank you for calling attention to the article.

Every CLK cabriolet owner should read it.

2001 CLK320 Cabrio
In addition to the leaking cylinder, the article author mentioned finding a broken ground wire that prevented his power roof from operating.

I believe the wire he was referring to is in the area soft top case cover hinge, which provides the controller with the case cover open/closed status, necessary for power roof to proceed, which one of the reasons that his roof was not operational.

Fortunately our W208/A208s are mechanically bullet proof. The electricals, not so much.

That said, because it seems to problematic, I want to mention a different wiring harness issue I encountered, with my CLK320 cabriolet.

I also found a broken primary ground return wire, inside the wiring harness, located between the trunk hinge and passenger side quarter panel.

While this did not keep my power roof from properly operating, the conditions were worrisome and were:

-Lamp out warning when breaking
-Found every lamp located on the trunk lid to be non-opertional
-Upon opening the trunk, all kinds of other CANBus controllers turned on (e.g. side mirrors self adjusted, electric radiator turned on at full speed, dash board lit up and flashed on/off like a XMAS tree etc.

Wanted to add this note, because this condition has already happened to a fairly good number of cabriolet owners and diagnosing/troubleshooting the diagnosis / troubleshooting/ repair can be $$$$.

My repair cost was $0, for more information, see:

https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...revisited.html

In all honesty, I'm just a retired electrical engineer, knowing the numerous complexities of the MB power roof system, with hydraulics, CANBus way above my pay grade, I would have traded/sold my CLK when the initial 5 year warranty expired. But, here I am 16 years later, still with a great ride.

Why.....if I should ever have a hydraulic failure, IMHO it's not if, but when.
