Picking up a 2001 clk430 Friday. The sunroof was left open it rained now it wont start (had same problem with my 99 e320) got a shifter from a 2001 e430 and fixed it. I ended up junking the 99 but saved a few parts including the shifter, was wondering if it would work in the clk430?

When the shifter electronics module, located inside the center console, comes in contact with liquids (e.g. rain, spilled drinks), it usually fails and the transmission goes into limp mode.

Beginning on April 1 2001, MB began installing a spill resistant module.

Your no start may be due to the system not recognizing that the car is in Park.

Also, early transmission shift modules, in the E / CLK series, did not have paddle shifting.

Update to awnser my question... no they do not interchange, the shift pattern is dif along with the mounts the (car ended up being a 2000) the clk430 only has p n d while the e series has p n d 4 3 2 1 I've been reading sounds like I might be able to take modules outta the e series and put them in the clk

The W210 E also has a "touch shift" shifter. The W210 E shifter that you used was an older model. Please post back how swapping internals from the older design to a touch shift unit work.

When i bought the shifter online for my 99 it said it come out of a 2000 e430. But other tgen that ive been reading many posts in this forum and benzworld the information i was referring to was posted over and over again by same person (awnsering questions on how to get it unstuck from park ect) he kept saying go to the w210 forum in the stickies and it willtell u how to swap the modules. I actually never got that far there is a yard 45 min away that has the window and shifter i need for $100
