CLK430 FUEL SENDING UNIT JAMMED?

Hello to all!

Have any of yall heard of this? My 2001 CLK430 has the dreaded P0455 evap leak code. Also between 1/4 - 3/4 of a tank of gas the low fuel light will flash at times. I did a smoke test and the only smoke coming out was from the canister vent valve (I did not have a scan tool to close valve). I cleaned the purge valve. I cleaned the MAF. I was told by the previous owner that they had this problem and took it to an indy shop who told then that fuel level sensor #2 was jammed. Not sure which direction to go. Thanks in advance for any solutions or advice.

I would start by changing the gas cap. the only time my gas light flashed is when I left the cap off.

Hi! I did research this site and benz world for fuel level sensor jammed and couldn't find anything. Lots of problems with this code just never heard of this diagnosis on any site. didn't want to get ripped for a fuel level sending unit that the car didn't need. Also, I wasn't sure that the low fuel light would keep flashing at times even the the check engine light had already come on for this fault. Thanks for replying! I will try the cap though. no feelings hurt though. I am glad there are more knowledgeable people than me out there.

The forums you mentioned provide a treasure chest of information.

Unfortunately, their search capabilities are weak (return a ton of results based on any on anyone of the search words entered).

Instead, try using Google advanced search, where you can specify an exact word or phrase, words to be excluded, a specific site to search etc..

Thanks for the replies. I replaced the fuel cap but still have the same code and problem. The purge solenoid is clicking and I have cleaned it so I assume its not the problem. The low fuel light flashes first when it hits 3/4 tank of fuel left and flashes till car shut off. The check engine light does not come on until the next time I start the car and stays on. It may be a day or 2 and the low fuel light will start flashing again. The check engine light stays on the whole time. Low fuel light will come on at random times flashing until it gets down to 1/4 tank of fuel left. I am wondering now if it is the fuel level sending unit. Any other advice? Thanks!

whens the last time you changed your fuel filter... it could not be getting enough fuel ran through and the sensor goes off accordingly.. dirty filter... i have this knowledge from other members on this site, and i am in no way or form a mechanic. advent DIY researcher only.
