iPod Connection For 2000 CLK 320

Is it possible to connect an ipod to the factory stereo/CD changer in a 2000 CLK 320. I checked on the Blitzsafe web site and they do not have an auxilliary adapter for the car. I would like to keep the factory stereo or possibly change out the factory stereo with a newer Mercedes stereo with an auxilliary input. Thanks

I've got the command and it comes with an auxillary jack in the glove compartment. Works fine....just can't control the iPOD with the comand. That would be cool...since the Beemers can do that now...

I wonder if I have aux in glovebox.
I have 2001 430. Where should I look?

You only have an aux in your glovebox if you have a Command

oddly enough...that aux jack is perhaps the most inconspicuous thing ever.... I didn't even know it was an auxillary audio jack until I read it on this board....of course back then this board was a dedicated CLK site....wasn't even this fancy...

2001 CLK
only a few of the brand new bmw's have this feature + they have to bring it to the dealership to do it.
on my clk, i can have audio go through the aux input, but sound isnt the best, theres a bit of noise. if others have the aux input, is it as loud and clear as FM radio and/or audio CD?

i had a tape deck in my old acura, and i just used the tape adapter to line output on my mp3 player and it worked real well. sound clarity was excellent.

And no running the wire out of the glovebox.

The iPod is supposed to double as a changer, so (from what I've read), if you already have a changer in the BMW, you can't get the iPod thingie.

I of course realize that now I have to get a link to back that up, but it's too early in the morning still... I'm pretty sure it was from engadget or gizmodo, where they discuss the whole "iPod your BMW" craze, and the plus and cons.

You pretty much wrote the link... "ipodyourbmw.com"

Select "just the facts" (which means "specifications" to us people who are not computer geeks trying to sound cool).

Yeah there it goes...

Not available for vehicles equipped with navigation system, satellite radio or CD changer. Not available on X3, X5, Z4 and previous 5 Series with Premium Sound System. Not available for model year 2002 3 Series, X5 and previous 5 Series with casstte.
It just doubles up as your changer and interfaces with the onboard system for control, which is cool, but WAY too restrictive. I'm not sure that I'd wanna throw out premium sound or a changer to swap for one of these, unless I can get a credit for it from the dealership or something...

The Aux-iPod from Pac-Audio would be better, but that's so much work. It would look clean as all hell though ( http://g35ipod.com/home.php )...

Or navigation... those models use a different CD changer whether you have a navigation system or not. At least with a Mercedes, the answer from an aftermarket shop is always "no we don't have a CD changer that will work with your car". With BMW, you have to ask a lot of questions before you can say "no we don't have a CD changer that will work with your car" unless you get really lucky and have an owner that has the most basic stereo...then an old Alpine will work.

So where is it anyway?

So, can anyone put me on the right track. I have COMMAND, I do, indeed, have a glove box. However, I was unable to locate AUX in it. Where exactly it should be, and is it possible that I don't have it. My COMMAND was not retrofitted. It was purchased with COMMAND option.

Thanks

It's possible you don't have it. If you don't see it, then it just must not exist. We can add one for you, we have the OEM parts.

Black2001...when you open your glove compartment...look along the walls on the right hand side, inside the glove compartment. There should be a metal hole with a hex screw fixture on it....

If you pay the parts charge... it's a little more.

Yes, I have it!
The reason I didn't see AUX in my glove box, I was looking for RCA type of connectors.

Now, I have to figure out how to make my COMMAND stay on AUX after car restarted.

Any sugesstions?

Another solution....

I have an XM roady installed in my ashtray that utilizes an FM Modulator. When I want to listen to my IPOD I plug the wired remote into the modulator jack that plugs into my XM. Works like a champ! I get XM and to use my IPOD as well- All with really great fidelity.

Hi, if this thread is still active, could anyone give me an update on adding an aux line-in in to my 2000 CLK 320?
I like the factory stereo but would like to bring my Spotify and Pandora on the road. I have read how the system is fiber optic based and difficult to upgrade.

Don't have COMAND, so no go on the glovebox solution. Please advise, thanks!

There's what appears to be a fiber optic plug connection in the bottom of the center console, what's that for?

Thanks for the quick reply. Are there any issues with reset using the radio code when the head unit is disconnected? Where would I look to find the code? I have users manual but I don't see any documentation for the Bose.

Originally, the manual was in a black folder that contained other documents. One was a sort of credit card with the radio code.
The dealer can give you the radio code using your VIN.
Without the code, you will not be able to turn on the radio after a loss of power.
